First one the comes to mind is Jnr Paulo. Very hard to put down. He won't go to ground because he hates having to get back up again. Image

Be interesting to see the stats on it. Clubs track these kind of things but they are not published.
Good shout

My only criticism is that he needs to shave those sideburns.

Other than that we are lucky to have him. Great player.

He needs to lose the handlebar mustache and long goatee as well.

Is he the kind of player who’d want to be captain? Doesn’t seem like it..

I think he’d be a good leader as a reformed hothead who can guide current hotheads like Horse and Young to their full potential..

Love his sideburns and mullet.

Yeah i see all the calls for him to be given the captaincy but my gut feeling is he'd probably take it if he was asked, but probably isnt going to be sticking his hand up for it.
Captaincy these days is more about the off field contributions and i dont think he's the type that enjoys that side of things.

Yeah same thing with Papalii. Both guys fine leaders on the field, but dont seem the type to be interested in any of the off field type stuff.

Been raised ad nauseum to explain to those who still believe the captain somehow influences the outcome of a game. You don't need the (c) beside your name to be an on field leader. There is one key responsibility though. Making the decision on using the Captain's Challenge. There's an element of judgement required by the individual that's hard for us to gauge.

The captain of our football team gets the captains challenge and he talks to the ref
he doesnt even get to make the call on 2 points or tap situations!

The club captain is really about the pre game, post game, interviews, the mid week appearances, the league wide events like season/post season launch functions, and having a guy in the role who will represent your club well, can handle those extra responsibilities and you trust them to do the right thing with regards to their training and preparation when away from the team for things like that and who aren't going to have your club on the 6pm news for the wrong reasons. It's basically a PR role. And my sense of Tarps and Papa are these are guys who love this club, who love their team mates and want to be leaders for their team, but really just want to play footy with their mates and go home

Given those two were also the poster boys for the anti-vax campaign we may need more water to pass under the bridge before elevating them to be an official club representative.

He's now on record saying he has captaincy aspirations. Given that's the case I'd be making him co-captain almost immediately now that Croker is gone for the season.

I always saw glimpses of what he could do, then he started doing it all the time this season.
But, he needs big minutes for the raiders, his Mrs was right, he's a wasted talent when not on the field.
And it is glorious to witness his form.
Make him captain and extend him as long as he wants.

Not just Mrs Tapine, all the Mrs’ out there.

There’s an old expression, I think it was Sun Tzu who coined it. If a man says something in the forest, and there’s no women to hear it, is he still wrong?

Rival clubs circle Canberra Raiders prop Joseph Tapine

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner is confident of retaining Joseph Tapine after it emerged as many as seven clubs had expressed an interest in signing the in-form front rower after November 1. Tapine’s manager Jim Banaghan said he had been inundated by clubs expressing an interest in recruiting the 28-year-old.

“Every club has been ringing me saying they want to talk to me,” Banaghan said. “They’re coming from everywhere. We haven’t once gone to the market. They are chasing me. I can understand why.

I think it is more important than ever that we make the finals and resemble a contender this year in order to keep Tapine.

If he has 2/3 of the competition enquiring about him, that means that he is in a very strong position to be able to:

1. Secure top dollar
2. Play for a team that regularly competes for titles
3. Live in a more “glamorous” spot like Manly or Bondi.

I’m sure we will offer him number 1; the jury is out on number 2; and we unfortunately can’t offer him 3.

There are some bidders who can most probably offer him all 3.

If we bumble our way to another 10th place finish I won’t be mad at him if he cashes his chips, I’ll be mad at the club.

I don't think he'll leave. I'm sure I've heard him say as much. But we have cash to spend having not signed anyone since releasing Williams, to replace Sutton or Hodgo for next year etc and so his manager is doing his job and securing the best deal for him.

My feeling is both club and player are keen to extend here and understand his standing in the game. In situations like that the deal usually gets done without much fuss. The price is going to be steep though
