34th min Completely inexplicable penalty against the Raiders. Too many errors from Canberra. That set followed an old fashioned shepherd from Ethan Strange.

PENALTY GOAL DRAGONS from almost in front.

We’re 10 minutes into the second half. Dragons just step out on the way to the try line. It’s still 10 all.

21 mins to go TRY RAIDERS to Josh Billing. Noah Ryan sends it right and it’s a sweet four pointer to Billing, playing in the second row today. Converted Noah Ryan.

15 mins to go TRY RAIDERS to Jacob Church. For some reason he’s in jersey 21. Wonderful try, dives in in the corner with most of his body suspended over the sideline. Converted, looked like it would miss, but it went over!

67th min TRY RAIDERS to fullback Tom Casey. He’s been very creative in the second half with his kicking and that was a great individual run. Went cross field until he found the weakness. Noah Ryan converts from close to the posts.

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg team produced a strong second half on Saturday, to overcome the St George Illawarra Dragons, 28-16, at Kippax. It was a good win for a young Raiders team that included five players that started the year in the SG Ball squad.

The Dragons started fast, going to an eight point lead inside the first 10 minutes, thanks to tries to winger Cooper Roberts and centre Hayden Budd. The Raiders hit back with a spectacular try to second rower Kaden Williams in the 16th minute, against the run of play. Winger Josh Smith made a huge break from deep inside the Raiders' half, with Williams backing him up on the inside. In the 22nd minute, a great pass from Noah Ryan put second rower Josh Billing into a gap - delivering a 10-8 lead to the home team. An inexplicable penalty to the Dragons right on half time, gave them the chance to level through a Braxton Wallace penalty goal. The teams went to the break at 10 all.

Josh Billing got his double 13 minutes into the second half, after halback Noah Ryan shifted the ball to the right. The Raiders were in again five minutes later, with Jacob Church brilliantly grounding the ball in the corner, with most of his body suspended over the touchline. Then in the 67th minute, the creativity of fullback Tom Casey was rewarded, when he made a great individual run to the try line. The Raiders led 28-10, before Dragons centre Leonard Skelton scored a consolation try with less than a minute left on the clock.

In Round 21, the Raiders host the last placed South Sydney Rabbitohs at Canberra Stadium. The Rabbitohs are on a seven game losing streak, last winning against the Wests Tigers, 24-20, in Round 13. They have won just three matches all season. They lost 40-16 against Cronulla at Shark Park on Saturday, conceding seven tries. South Sydney winger Deijion Leugaimafa scored two of his team's three tries.

These two teams last met in Round 11 this year at Redfern Oval in Sydney. Canberra's Corey Lewis, Noah Saddler, Sione Moala and Carsil Vaikai all scored tries in the 24-20 victory for the Green Machine.

This game is a "must win" if the Raiders hope to play finals. Canberra is presently two competition points behind the teams placed between third and fifth - the Panthers, Dragons and Tigers - while the sixth placed Sharks are one competition point ahead. There are four games remaining in the regular season. The home stretch includes games against two top five teams, the Knights and Tigers. All they can do is keep on winning from here. Hopefully, that continues on Saturday.

Team news: The Raiders' back line is unchanged. Tane Kiriona has been named as starting prop in place of Niu Mariota, with Mariota dropping to the bench. Jayden Clarkson has been added to the bench, while Noah Saddler and Harrison Leadbitter drop out.

AT A GLANCE: The Jersey Flegg Canberra Raiders produced a last gasp comeback win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Saturday at Canberra Stadium. The Rabbitohs went to a 22-16 lead at the 60 minute mark, but the Raiders scored two tries in the final six minutes to snatch a 28-22 victory.

The Rabbitohs came into the game on a seven match losing streak, having won just three matches all season. But they started fast, going to a 10-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes, thanks to tries to prop Lachlan Gales and centre Zane Bijorac. The Raiders struck back in the 14th minute, with a great flat pass from halfback Noah Ryan putting Josh Billing into the gap. The home team drew level in the 20th minute, with second rower Kaden Williams making a great run to the try line on the left edge. However, after Bjorac got his double in the 31st minute, the Rabbitohs took a 16-10 lead to the break.

In the 47th minute, a Dion Teaupa penalty goal saw the Rabbitohs edge further ahead. Five minutes later, Raiders bench forward Josh Allen barged through the South Sydney line to score - with Noah Ryan's conversion ensuring Canberra trailed by just two. But an error from the kickoff immediately handed the Rabbitohs a try scoring chance. They took it, with winger Deijion Leugaimafa crossing in the corner.

As the clock ticked down, things looked grim for the home team. But in the 64th minute, Kaden Williams charged down the western touchline to cross for his second try of the match. A stunning sideline conversion from Noah Ryan tied the game up, at 22 all. And with just three minutes left, centre Deakin Bright made a break on the right edge, and ran around to plant the ball under the posts. The easy conversion for Ryan delivered the final six point margin.

In Round 22, the Raiders head to Leichhardt Oval for a clash with the third placed Wests Tigers. The Raiders level with the Panthers (fifth) and Dragons (sixth) on competition points, but are in seventh due to their poor points differential. They are only one win away from the Tigers. So this will be a crucial game for the young Green Machine.

The Tigers are coming off a 24-12 win over the Panthers at Penrith on Saturday. They've also had recent wins over the Thunderbolts (44-8) and Eels (18-12). The Raiders lost to the Tigers earlier this year at Canberra Stadium, in a five tries to three defeat.

There are three games left in the regular season for the Raiders. After the Tigers, they meet the second placed Knights and the 10th placed Sea Eagles. So it is not an easy draw. They just need to keep on winning from here and hope that there are teams above them that slip up.

Team news: Josh Smith has dropped out of the side, but the Raiders have failed to name a replacement on the wing. Eneseli Kamuta and Niu Mariota are the new starting props, with Jayden Clarkson promoted to NSW Cup and Tane Kiriona dropping back to the bench. Noah Saddler and Cooper Harris have been added to the bench, with Josh Allen elevated to NSW Cup and Sam Wentworth dropping to the reserves list.

AT A GLANCE: The Jersey Flegg Canberra Raiders led for much of the clash with the Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday - but they were sunk by two late tries to the home team. The Raiders led 20-10 at half time and 24-20 at the 60 minute mark. But ultimately, the Green Machine went down, 32-24. The Raiders scored four tries in the first half - doubles to Josh Billing and Manase Kaho. But the Tigers came back strongly after the break. They drew level, 20-20, in the 55th minute, through a converted try to bench player Cayne Nicholas. The Raiders edged ahead again in the 59th minute when winger Livai Kaloutolu crossed.

But with Manase Kaho sent to the sin bin in the 61st minute, the Tigers pounced. Wests' lock Justin Matamua got his second try of the afternoon - while halfback Kade Hill wrapped it up with a try three minutes from full time.

The Raiders are still not out of the race for the top five and finals football. The loss sees them still placed seventh, but just one competition point shy of the fifth placed Sharks, and two points away from the fourth placed Panthers. There are just two rounds of the regular season remaining and all the Raiders can do is to win and hope. Their negative points differential might be the thing which costs them in the end. And it doesn't get any easier in Round 23 when they face the second placed Knights in Newcastle.

The Knights have lost only six games this season. But one of those games was against the Raiders in Round 15 at Kippax. Since then, Newcastle has lost once - to the Sea Eagles (30-12) at Brookvale. They are now on a three game winning streak after beating the ladder leading Roosters, 20-14, at Waverley Oval on Sunday. So this will be a tough game for the young Green Machine. Here's hoping they can turn it around this weekend in the Hunter Valley.

Team news: The Raiders are finally getting some troops back from injury. Manase Kaho retains his place at fullback. Jed Stuart slots in at centre, with Josh Billing shifting back to the second row. Thomas Casey and Noah Ryan again form the halves combination, while Campbell Woolnough takes over at hooker from Sione Moala. Jayden Clarkson takes over from Niu Mariota at starting prop, while Kaden Williams comes into the second row. Caleb Tohi and Tane Kiriona drop back to the bench. We are assuming Ata Mariota has been incorrectly named on the bench - and it should be his brother Niu listed. Sam Wentworth has also been added to the interchange.

Season record: Raiders: 10 and 10 (7th, -129)
Knights: 14 and 6 (2nd, +115)
Form: Raiders: WLWWL
Knights: WLWWW
Attack: Raiders 21, Knights 21 points scored per game

AT A GLANCE: The Jersey Flegg Canberra Raiders fell agonisingly short of a win against the second placed Knights at Newcastle on Saturday. The Raiders were reduced to only 12 men when hooker Campbell Woolnough was sin binned in the 56th minute - and were trailing, 32-18. They scored two tries in the final 10 minutes or so, but the Knights held on to win 32-30.

The Raiders were the first to score inside the first minute of the game through Manase Kaho, backing up a break up the middle on an early tackle. The Knights hit back with two quick tries, in the space of just a few minutes. Fullback Fletcher Sharpe crossed in the 12th minute, while five eighth Kurt Donoghoe capitalised on a break from hooker Nailagoliva soon after.

Canberra's half Noah Martin, recruited mid season from the Knights, set up two tries in the space of two minutes, giving the Raiders an 18-12 lead at the 25 minute mark. Josh Billing, who was a late switch into the centres, crossed in the 21st minute, with second rower Caleb Tohi quickly following. With less than a minute to half time, Kurt Donoghoe kicked ahead after a mid field scrum, with Knights fullback Fletcher Sharpe getting his second try of the day. The two teams went to the break all tied up at 18 apiece.

Newcastle controlled the score board in the opening 15 minutes of the second half, with tries to centre James Johnson, second rower Thomas Cant and prop Max Bradbury. The Raiders' late comeback started in the 59th minute, when Manase Kaho scored his second try of the match. Five eighth Thomas Casey crossed with just three minutes remaining, keeping the Green Machine's hopes alive. But it was not to be. Tempers flared right on full time, with Canberra prop Enseli Kamuta sin binned after the siren had sounded.

The loss has ended the Raiders' finals chances. They have fallen to eighth place on the ladder, and are now three competition points away from the fifth placed Dragons - with one match of the regular season remaining.

In their final game of 2022, the Raiders will host the 10th placed Manly Sea Eagles at Canberra Stadium. The Sea Eagles broke a three game losing streak on Saturday against a disrupted fourth placed Sharks at Brookvale - winning 50-22. That score line is a big turnaround from their recent defeats to the Panthers (44-10), Eels (38-8) and Bulldogs (44-24). Hopefully, the Raiders can finish on a good note on Saturday.

Team news: Sione Moala comes in at hooker for the Raiders, in place of Campbell Woolnough. Jed Stuart will start at centre, with Josh Billing moving back into the second row. Kaden Williams has also been included in the second row, with Caleb Tohi and Tane Kiriona dropping to the bench.

Season record: Raiders: 10 and 11 (8th, -131)
Sea Eagles: 9 and 12 (10th, -83)
Form: Raiders: LWWLL
Sea Eagles: WLLLW
Attack: Raiders 22, Sea Eagles 24 points scored per game
Defence: Raiders 28, Sea Eagles 28 points conceded per game
Recent meetings: 2022 Round 4 Raiders 28 defeated Sea Eagles 24 at Brookvale
2019 Round 7 Raiders 56 defeated Sea Eagles 4 at HE Laybutt Field

So that's now definitely it for the Raiders' finals chances in Jersey Flegg. It's been a tough season with injury and illness, but some good signs with young players stepping up from SG Ball. The slow start to the season didn't help, nor did some very big losses to the Panthers, Roosters, Eels and Sharks - which impacted the points differential.
