I think the Knights will take a step backwards in 2024.

NRL investigates third-party deal of Newcastle Knights star Kalyn Ponga

The deal, which was given written approval by the NRL four years ago, is believed to be worth six figures and has come under the microscope after Ponga’s father, Andre, raised concerns regarding the agreement.

Knights officials confirmed the deal had been given the green light by the NRL in 2020 and the club was confident the issue was not with them. However, issue being reviewed is that the third-party deal was between Ponga and a business associate of one of the club’s most powerful figures. There is no suggestion Ponga, his father Andre, or the club figure and the business associate have done anything wrong.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Interesting one. If it was cleared by the NRL at the time then curious what this new info is. If there was other representations made in the background then isn't old man Ponga throwing himself under the bus too?

Unless the business associate and the club figure left a paper trail the NRL won't be able to do much. I mean players could sign two contracts and still plead ignorance.

I'm not sure what the NRL has to do with it though unless someone is claiming there was a cap breach. They aren't party to the agreement.

If Pongas Dad has raised the issue then it will be do with the sponsor not fulfilling their side of the deal, not been paid. No way he would be raising it if it was an illegal deal and it had been signed off by the NRL

I dunno. I reckon he would.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.
