Raiders injuries to prompt squad reshuffle for Brisbane trip
The Canberra Raiders are unlikely to rush back regular captain Elliott Whitehead as injuries are set to force another squad change for this Saturday's NRL clash against the Broncos in Brisbane. Second-rower Zac Hosking appeared to dislocate his shoulder early in the second half of Canberra's nail-biting 21-20 golden point win over the Gold Coast Titans. Hosking was sent for scans on Monday to check if he would require surgery or not.

Zac Hosking to have scans on shoulder to determine if surgery is required
Zac Hosking will have scans on his shoulder to see whether he requires surgery or if the injury can be managed through rehabilitation. Albert Hopoate will be assessed this week following his arm burn and is a chance to return this weekend.

I honestly can't take anyone seriously who is advocating for Hoppa or even Cotric over Schiller at this stage.

Think we're gonna start to feel the absences of experienced professionals like Hosking and Rapana soon tbh with tough games coming up.
Reckon we're going to miss them a lot.

Re: 2024 Round 7 v Broncos: Teams and Previews
All wingers get caught out at some point in time. It's the nature of the job. It's more the way that Schiller is getting out of position and that it doesn't seem to be improving. He is half following the centre in but leaving the winger unmarked and tackling no one. Every team will target that wing as long as he is there. The Nickman wrote: ↑April 15, 2024, 2:30 pmI'm going to say this one last time and then I'm tired of repeating myself... have you not seen Hopoate constantly get caught out defending on the wing as well?pickles wrote: ↑April 15, 2024, 2:14 pmSchiller looks good with the ball in hand but he needs to get his positioning right in defence. He was out of position for 2 of their tries last night and until he can learn to mark his winger and not come in to leave a saloon passage down the sideline then it's hard to see it as a net positive. I think Hoppa will come in on that wing and they need to give Schiller a few games on the wing in Cup to get his positioning sorted. The Nickman wrote: ↑April 14, 2024, 9:01 pm Mariota looks really good on the edge, wasn’t it him who put Schiller over for his second try?
Schiller’s earned another run after this week too, there’s just so much excitement almost every time he gets the ball
I'd be happy for him to stay in the team to sort it out but I think this is what will happen.
If you want safe in defence, it's Cotric. If you want exciting in attack, it's Schiller. Hopoate is neither of those things.
Also read my post, I think Schiller should stay there and I am confident he can work this out. I also think it's an absolute lock of the week that Hoppa will be named on that wing this afternoon.

We missed Rapana massively on Sunday - felt like we were attacking without a fullback most of the time which I think was part of the game plan (let Chevy do the little things - attack to progress over coming weeks) but I also think this will be part of the “growing pains”. It’s been a good season so far, but we are still in a transitional phase.

Wild how many people are sperging over predictions that Ricky will probably pick his favourite, Hopoate, over Schiller.
I don't think anybody here disagrees that Schiller is much more of an attacking threat. I don't think anybody here sees Hopoate as a much better defender. But the fact is Schiller's defence has been poor and Ricky loves Hopoate. It's very simple.
I was wrong in my team predictions last week and I won't be hugely surprised if I'm wrong again this week, but honestly how could anybody on this forum blame those of us who think Ricky will go with Hopoate based on Ricky's form on team selections in recent years?

I'd pick Schiller again, but I'd have him on notice. It's 2 weeks in a row he has made horrible defensive plays and gifted the opposition tries.

We train the kids in under 10s to defend opposite your "opposite" player. Winger in line with winger.
It's not hard. Trust your team-mate on the inside and move over if he's not passing.

I don't think Hosking is "experienced", off memory he has played about 30 games. We will miss him and Rapa though.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Schiller admits himself he is adapting to life on the wing, as he usually plays centre in NSW Cup. Hopefully, video review and training sessions will help him develop the defensive mindset required to defend on the wing. His speed is a huge advantage when compared with Hoppa and Cotric, but if he is leaking points its a huge problem.

Same as last week - Sasagi in for Hoskingson.
Starling is puzzling… just not effective for us anymore. No way Levi is an 80 minute hooker, there are very few of those in the competition. Would love to give Woolford a go, I don’t think Puru has played enough to slot in for 30 minutes a week tbh - he plays exclusively at lock these days.

I watched him pretty closely against the Titans. He brings energy and enthusiasm in defence but needs to be a lot more accurate with his passing and should have that sorted by now.Dylan’s Raiders wrote: ↑April 16, 2024, 3:31 pm Same as last week - Sasagi in for Hoskingson.

Woolford is solid but it is hard to see him turning a game in attack or defence so not sure what the answer is. Maybe Levi just needs to get a lot fitter or if he can't manage 80, give Woolford the first 20-30 and then bring Levi on after that to finish out the game.
