Last round: The Canberra Raiders' undefeated start the 2024 Jersey Flegg season has come to an end - with the Green Machine suffering a 38–12 loss to the Canterbury Bulldogs at Raiders Belconnen on Sunday. The Raiders were disrupted and missed the organisation and kicking game of half Mitch Henderson. The Bulldogs were very physical and benefited from a strong flow of penalties in the match. But in the end it was a decisive win for the visitors.

The Bulldogs took a 14-6 lead to the break, with a double to Canterbury centre William Afualo giving the visitors a 10-0 lead after 15 minutes. Second rower Jaxon Lavender got the Raiders back into the match, with a try under the posts in the 31st minute. But just before half time, the Dogs spread the ball from one edge to the other, with winger Braye Porter crossing in the corner.



Canberra lifted in the second half, but errors stymied the opportunities they created. In the 51st minute Raiders winger Kane Rushton wasn't able to defuse a bomb to the corner, and Bulldogs centre Danny Gabrael got the perfect bounce of the ball. Four more points for Canterbury. Five minutes later, Jaxon Lavender crossed for his second try of the game, following a good break down the touchline from Canberra winger Jesse Limon. The Raiders trailed, 20-12, and were back in the game. However the Bulldogs unleashed in the final stages, scoring three tries in the final 10 minutes of the contest.

This round: The Raiders still sit in first place on the competition ladder - two competition points clear of six chasing teams. In Round 7, the Green Machine will head to Melbourne, for a meeting with the Storm at Broadmeadows. The Storm produced a 24-12 win over the Eels at Crestwood Oval in Sydney on Saturday. The Eels led by six at half time, but the Melbourne outfit held Parramatta scoreless in the second stanza - and piled on three tries of their own. Storm centre Matthew Hill bagged a double. The Eels are on a three game winning streak, which includes victories over the Silktails (36-10) and Tigers (28-18). Melbourne's only recent loss came against the Knights (34-12) at Newcastle.

Team news: Jack Sandford replaces Jalen Afamasaga at halfback. It is a surprising selection as Sandford has primarily played at fullback or in the outside backs for the Raiders. Mitchell Prest returns to starting prop, with Caleb Garvie dropping to the bench. The two were switched late last weekend. Trae Bennetto has been named as 18th man.

Last round: The Canberra Raiders are back on the winners list, after defeating the Melbourne Storm, 24-16, at Broadmeadows on Saturday. The Raiders produced a try inside the first five minutes, with prop Mitchell Prest crossing early. Caleb Garvie's first try in green, scored just before half time, ensured Canberra went to the break with a 12-6 advantage. Both tries were set up by good passes from hooker Owen Pattie. Tries to hooker Shaun Packer and half Jaxen Yow extended the lead to 18 points at the 45 minute mark. Packer just dived over the line from dummy half, while Yow made a good run to get to line. The Storm threatened when they produced two tries in the space of three minutes - to centres Matthew Hill and Liam Williams. That saw them draw within eight points at the 60 minute mark. However, the Raiders were able to protect their lead over the final stages.



This round: The Raiders remain in first place on the competition ladder - two competition points clear of the chasers. In Round 8, the Green Machine will host the Sharks at Canberra Stadium. The two teams met only a month ago at Shark Park, with the Raiders running out 30-4 winners. Half Mitch Henderson and centre Regan Carr both got doubles. Coming into Round 7, the Sharks had not won since their Round 1 victory over the Warriors (36-10). The closest they had come is a 20 all draw with the Rabbitohs at Erskineville Oval in Round 6. They got a breakthrough win on Sunday afternoon, beating the Sea Eagles 30-10 at Shark Park. Cronulla centre Michael Gabrael bagged a double.

Team news: The Raiders' team list is unchanged from last week - apart from Jaxon Lavender switching to lock and Joe Roddy to the second row.
