Spurs go down 3-2 to the Premier League leading Arsenal. An own goal by Hojbjerg to open 'Arsenal's' scoring the real difference at the end of the match. Arsenal led 3 nil at half time so to come back with two goals in the second half was a positive for Spurs.

Yes, a loss is a loss, but Spurs did score 3. Unfortunately for Spurs and Hojbjerg he saved his best header of the season for Arsenal. Ah well, no use crying in your beer, it just sends it flat.

Disappointing display from Spurs going down 2 nil to Chelsea. Very disjointed in this deferred match. Also no energy. Spurs play Liverpool on Monday and another display like that will see them well beaten.

Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix will be in the semi finals and they await the results of the Sydney FC and Macarthur match tonight at 7:45pm and tomorrows match between Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City at 5pm on Sunday.

Mariners come in as the form side having won their last 5 A-League games straight. Hopefully they will have no injuries playing the AFC final against Al-Ahed in Lebanon at 2am our time on Monday.

It's a real team effort too Dusty. They have only Angel Torres in the top 5 goal scorers with 13. The next 2 are down at 5 goals each.

Part way through the 36th of 38 Premier League rounds and the big guns are firing. Arsenal with a comfortable 3-0 win over Bournemouth, Newcastle with a 4-1 win over relegation bound Burnley and Manchester City with a thumping 5-1 win over mid table side Wolves. Erling Haaland with 4 goals in this match and he looks odds on to win the Golden boot for this season. He has 25 goals and next is Cole Palmer of Chelsea on 20 along with Alexander Isak of Newcastle also on 20.

Hey Zim, for Spurs it was a lack of effort which has put them in the position they are in. The early season enthusiasm seemed to have evaporated recently. James Maddison being a prime example. He was on fire early in the season, but when he came back from extended injury and thought he could 'wrestle' his way in Premier League rather than play football, Ange Postecoglou called him out on it by saying the real 'tough guys' were in the UFC ring. Maddison has been poor/uninterested ever since his return. Spurs have a young midfielder coming for next season in 18 year old Swede Lucas Bergvall who has the reputation of being a prodigy. Time will tell. Spurs did not go to market to replace striker Harry Kane and opportunities are not being converted. Hopefully that will be fixed in the summer transfer window.

Melbourne Victory have won a penalty shoot out over Melbourne City with Goal Keeper Paul Izzo the hero, saving 3 and scoring one penalty shot to add to a brilliant game in both normal and extra time. Melbourne Victory had Zinedine Machach red carded in the 37th minute but they battled on to level the scores at 1-1 at full time. Interviewed after the game Paul Izzo was asked about his low profile in the game and his response was a classic: 'Fake it 'til you make it, I guess'.

So the A League semi finals next week will be:
Central Coast Mariners V Sydney FC
Wellington Phoenix V Melbourne Victory

Liverpool beat Spurs 4-2. Liverpool could have scored more. Spurs started the first half showing all the lethargy of the Chelsea match only this time they were up against a far better side. Liverpool led 2-0 at half time and were up 4-0 by the 59th minute. Only when down by 4 goals did Ange choose to make 3 changes in one go and the side immediately began to play with shape and put on 2 goals but the horse had bolted. Prior to this game Ange told the press that he needed to make a number of changes to the squad in the summer transfer window and that he has been unhappy with the last months form.

In another game overnight Chelsea have thrashed West Ham 5-0. There is one more game to complete this round tomorrow which is Crystal Palace v Manchester United.

It sure was Zim. I know Matt Ryan has a mortgage on the Socceroos Goal Keeper spot but should the 32 year old need a spell or lose form then the 29 year old Izzo would do a good job. He doesn't have the dance flair of the 35 year old Andrew Redmayne, but he would get the job done, for sure imo.

Agreed PNGR37, it has been a remarkable season for the German Club. Some in the media have changed their last name to 'Neverlusen'.

Meanwhile back in the Premier League, Arsenal have defeated Manchester United 1-0 this morning to go back on top in the Premier League.

There is still the Liverpool v Aston Villa match tomorrow to complete this round 37 of 38.

Deferred matches will then be played to have all sides having played 37 matches. These are:

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City on Wednesday morning our time.
Brighton v Chelsea and Manchester United v Newcastle play on Thursday morning our time.

The first leg of the A League semi finals have been played with Central Coast Mariners defeating Sydney FC 2-1 after Sydney FC had 2 players red carded. The first red card was clear in that it was a Jack Rodwell studs up tackle straight into the shin. The second was for a second yellow card in the match to Corey Hollman. I have to say the second yellow card was soft as. A foul yes, but yellow card?? that was a harsh call imo. When players are in a semi final and they are competing for the ball, sometimes inadvertent contact will be made. To be clear, the Mariners deserved the win, but Sydney FC did not deserve to finish the game with only 9 players imo.

In the second semi final, Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory have played a Nil all draw.

The second leg of both semi finals will be played this coming Saturday.

It would not be Spurs without further injury. Richarlison hurt in training prior to the last game and he won't play again this season. Bissouma damaged his knee in the Burnley game and is also out. But .. hope springs eternal. City must have a great rehab team, because they always seem to have close to their regular full squad when the trophies are on the line. Haaland will again get the golden boot award and Foden has been in phenomenal form all season. KDB to feed them opportunity. A wonderful squad.

Spurs have gone down 2 nil to Manchester City. With the scores locked at Nil all at half time, both sides had put on an entertaining match. Then it was the old firm of KDB to set up Haaland and he scores. The score stays at 1-0 until injury time when City receive a penalty and Haaland again slots home the opportunity. Looking at the stats of the game, Spurs had 10 shots of which 5 were on target compared to City with 8 shots of which 5 were on target. The difference being the quality of the finishing of Haaland. There is no one quite like him in Premier League. With this victory Manchester City go to the top of the Premier League ladder with one game remaining in the season.

Spurs beaten but not disgraced. The injury to left back Udogie some weeks ago saw a shuffle at the back this week. Van de ven went to left back and Dragusin to the center back position. Against sides other than Manchester City it may have been good enough, but alas, not today.
