Re: The Cricket Thread
Green likely out for the summer which is a blow
Re: The Cricket Thread
That was the initial report, but now he’s looking at potentially doing back surgery which would rule him out of the summer
Re: The Cricket Thread
Yeah not great news with our batting already a bit iffy this summer.

Confirmed, green out for the summer. Guess more falls to Mitch Marsh
Re: The Cricket Thread
Green’s surgery might be a blessing in disguise if the selectors make the right moves.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Select Marcus Harris?

Reminds me of Homer's foray into the land of chocolate when trying to sell his experience to the new German owners.

PS Smith won’t be opening this summer
Re: The Cricket Thread
Haha I left it purposely ambiguous.
I think they need to select a genuine opener that isn’t Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft or Matt Renshaw.
- Harris just isn’t good enough. If you take FC matches at the junction out of his record it drops substantially. Has always been a bit out of his depth at test level and his fielding is disgraceful for a top order bat.
- Bancroft. Just too much to come back from imo.
- Renshaw. Just not enough runs.
I don’t think it’s viable to bring in an all rounder. If you do that you’re way too vulnerable from 2 down onwards. Marsh, Head and the all rounder/Carey would all be batting a position too high.
- Webster has made a good case. But I think his bowling would just be fodder at test level. Takes them at 30 with most of his games at Bellerive.
- Hardie is the really interesting one. Genuine all rounder but not sure he’s a test #6 yet.
- Neser. Great bowler but not good enough to be batting top 7 in test cricket.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

So... will they pick the young kid Konstas? Is it a case of make runs in the Aus A side, we'll pick you?

If they pick Harris again I think I'm going to scream.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Konstas is very new to this level of cricket having only just turned 19, but if he again makes runs for the Australia A side, I reckon he will put himself in as Uzi's partner. He then gets another chance against Victoria at FC level. Here's hoping weight of runs leaves the selectors with only one choice.Matt wrote: ↑October 15, 2024, 3:04 pmI agree with all of it.julian87 wrote: ↑October 14, 2024, 3:39 pmHaha I left it purposely ambiguous.

Re: The Cricket Thread
I think it would be risky to pick the young guy - do remember India have a very good fast bowling attack nowadays.
Not saying it would be the wrong thing to do just saying they would need to think long and hard about whether this is the right time to throw a young guy into the furnace. He might be good enough to rise to the challenge.

Re: The Cricket Thread
If you want a good take on Konstas and the current situation I’d suggest listening to the first 20 mins of this weeks granstand cricket podcast with Ed Cowan. He’s a very measured and eloquent pundit for an ex player.
My main take was that these players who are deemed generational talents (those who’ve scored centuries from the start onwards) have all generally debuted before 23. Most before 21.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Yeah true, Michael Clarke scored a century on debut, still a numpty though.
Re: The Cricket Thread
I reckon if he is making runs at FC/Australia A level then he should be picked. To me there is no stand out to partner Uzi at the top of the Test order. I was a boy when Doug Walters came into the Test team at age 19 to hit a century on debut against England. After some years of Australian cricket dour batting he was a breath of fresh air. A shame National Service then took him away for 2 years in his prime. We have been juggling players at the top of the order and even Uzi has been in and out of the role before becoming a fixture opening the batting. Here is an opportunity to give a young bloke a go. The next few weeks will be crucial.
I take Azza's point on India's fast bowling with Bumrah proving again and again that a fast bowler does not have to be 6'3" and above to succeed at Test level. No one is going to be 100% comfortable against him, but to me that is a reason to pick players with more upside than the likes of Bancroft/Renshaw et al. I see Harris as his main competitor for the opening bat spot.

India out for 46 v NZ
Re: The Cricket Thread
Wow, and this match is in India at Bangalore after India won the toss and decided to bat. Matt Henry took 5-15, Will O'Rourke 4-22 and Tim Southee 1-8. End of Day 2, NZ 3-180.

Re: The Cricket Thread
I reckon Sam Konstas was unlucky to be given out LBW to Boland against Victoria yesterday. Boland is delivering from wide on the crease and the ball is going straight on. Konstas is playing forward and the ball appears to strike him in line with leg stump and is, from that angle, likely to be sliding down the leg side.
