Surely selling the house means something… has anyone seen the listing? Is he upgrading? How many bedrooms is it?
My god it’s going to be a long off season.

Unless it's an auction, this could drag out for months and he misses the vital full off season under the belt!Dylan’s Raiders wrote: ↑November 9, 2024, 8:47 am Surely selling the house means something… has anyone seen the listing? Is he upgrading? How many bedrooms is it?

Just saw Sam burgess at Coogee. He did a double take when he saw me in my Raiders hat. Felt like he wanted to tell me something. My tip is this is not dead just yet.
Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
I just saw a gypsy jiggle his pelvis to the south-west. So I agree this isn't dead just yet.
Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
I just saw an old man in the park wearing nothing but a trench coat EDIT. All the signs are positive!

Maybe, just maybe, the Raiders telling Warrington to go **** themselves might be a perfectly cromulent negotiation strategy if the player is keen to leave.

Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
What happens on the cap if the Raiders just buy this guys house for $250k overs?
Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
Haha. I was watching Graham's podcast with Cheese last week and he somewhat sheepishly commented that he wasn't sure about leaving Sydney because "his partner was well entrenched in the Roosters club now".BadnMean wrote:What happens on the cap if the Raiders just buy this guys house for $250k overs?
Nothing to see here. Carry on lads.

Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
Its salary cap rorting to bribe a player with jobs for family. End of story and it should be stamped out

Nope no nope - we are pure as snow with these things. Other clubs would have ensured CHN was comfortably retired via similar arrangements that are quite permissible under cap rules, but as a supporter base we value cap integrity and good adherence to success This club sometimes

All clubs do it. EDIT

Of course they do Frog - I was just making the point that the GH takes a somewhat inconsistent view on these things depending the thread. Some folks round these parts can be very righteous when it suits a narrative and rather loose when it pleases another outcome
Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
If they’re “similar arrangements” they get counted to the salary cap. The Raiders wouldn't have any grounds to say that. That would need to come from Walker, who then risks getting caught up in contract law if Warrington wanted to be a little petty.Seiffert82 wrote: ↑November 10, 2024, 4:38 pm Maybe, just maybe, the Raiders telling Warrington to go **** themselves might be a perfectly cromulent negotiation strategy if the player is keen to leave.

This one is just a stalemate until they budge or we completely withdraw our interest.

Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
I feel like we have circled this one a couple of times and we are unlikely to have a meeting of the minds here GE. I’d summarise our main point of difference as me relying on the official salary cap rules released by the NRL and you disregarding them. Not sure I can help you further on this one bro.greeneyed wrote: ↑November 12, 2024, 7:18 amIf they’re “similar arrangements” they get counted to the salary cap. What players can earn outside the salary cap
Unlimited – Players can earn unlimited amounts from corporate sponsors who are not associated with the club and who do not use the game's intellectual property (no club logos, jerseys or emblems) provided these are pre-approved by both a player’s club and the NRL. These agreements may not be negotiated by the club as an incentive for a player to sign a contract, nor can they be guaranteed by the club.
Other Benefits – Tertiary education fees, approved traineeships, relocation and temporary accommodation costs are not included in the cap but must be approved
Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
Billy Slater was an example of earnings outside the cap when he did ads promoting the taste/health benefits of Queensland bananas. No NRL logo's or footballs in sight. Legitimate earnings.
Where it gets murky, is when a player family member is employed by an NRL club. As an individual that family member has the right to work with any employer who wants them. But if they were being paid $200K to call the bingo numbers, then I reckon it's dodgy, but I don't know what the NRL can legally do to stop it.

Re: Raiders withdraw interest in signing Danny Walker
I am well aware of those salary cap rules. And I’m understanding them correctly. Neither of those provisions are any help in the club finding a way forward for CHN.Billy Walker wrote: ↑November 12, 2024, 8:07 amI feel like we have circled this one a couple of times and we are unlikely to have a meeting of the minds here GE. If Walker wants to break his contract and take the offer of a promotion in Australia it's down to him and his manager discussing the options with his current club.
Or maybe he's too busy buying and selling houses.

I thought you were meaning go **** themselves and Walker jump on a plane haha. Yup I'm happy with how the Raiders have handled this so far too. If he is Hodgo potential/long term hooker you'd pay that transfer no issue but I think those who have seen him play see him more as a stop gap.Seiffert82 wrote: ↑November 12, 2024, 9:25 pmThe Raiders absolutely did say that when they walked away from the table.Roger Kenworthy wrote:The Raiders wouldn't have any grounds to say that.
