Raiders sack Carney

The Canberra Raiders NRL club has sacked halfback Todd Carney.

Club chief executive Don Furner said the board had deliberated this morning following a series of off-field behavioural issues with the representative halfback.

"The board decided they had had enough," Furner told reporters.

Neither. We really don't have any players near the talent of Carney coming through IMO. And if we go through another ten years of mediocrity I don't think we'll be around by the end of it.

Raiders sack Carney

In a short statement, Furner said a final decision had only been made today after Carney and his manager David Riolo had met with the board.

"The board met and discussed Todd with his manager and Todd was granted his request to put his case to the board," Furner said.

"Regrettably they (the board) chose to terminate his contract."

I'm shattered and happy at the same time.

Shattered because we all know the potential that he had.

But I'm happy because we can move on without us living on the edge of our seat wondering when he would screw up next. Kudos to management for having balls big enough to do what most other clubs would not.

I expect this to really hurt us this year, but from next year on we might be a better TEAM.

Another Wasted Talent!
(Julian O'Neil Club)

He has had plenty of chances, How many does he want?

It is in the best interests of the club to cut him.

He will now bounce from one club to another until he can't play anymore and in 20yrs, We will say Carney 'Oh well another one who had everything given to him on a plate and blew it!'

it is sad, But there is always someone ready to take his opportunity, Go Marc Herbert!

Get over it!

The club took the hard line and have made the right call.

Who are we going to throw the $400k at for next season????

BIG MISTAKE!!!

Is the NRL going to follow through hwith his ban for playing with other clubs next year.

Todd, you can thank your stupid manager for this outcome. Lets see how long he sticks by you if you cant play next year.

the nrl MUST back this decision the stand him down for 2 years IMO, they cannot allow a contract to be registered with another NRL club within the contract period we had him for.

Reluctantly, its the right decision, i am gutted. He's the player who could have led the raiders back to glory, and thanks to his own stupid actions the club has been set back god knows how many years... As a player i will miss seeing him in the lime green
