No mate this is the Western Western Sydney side not the Western Sydney side. The Western Sydney side plays at Parramatta Stadium and the Western Western Sydney side will play out of Campbelltown.

New team should’ve been called Greater Eastern Canberra, had a third of their home games played in Western Sydney and let NSW pay for it.. everyone wins!!

Wouldn't the team bid fail on bad satire alone?

Not a great start to the Asian cup. I didn't stay up for the game but looking at the stats how did we lose?

We have no goal threat. Tried to pass the ball into the back of the net at times, putting in crosses for maclaren when hes not a noted aerial threat, lacked any real creativity, jordan parked the bus after going 1 goal up and we weremt good enough to break them down.

Rogic didnt offer anything in attack and was sitting too deep for most of the game, and he lacks pace to carry the ball.

Kruse was virtually a spectator on the wing.

Had no real spark off the bench to call on.

Want me to keep going? Lol

Until we have a player/s who can regularly score we will not be a threat. For all the talk about attacking football there were too few prepared to have a go. Just like in the World Cup. Rogic is not the answer. Maybe Irvine to start.

I think the Govt needs to donate a ball and a set of goals to all boys born after 2013. Tell them to spend every afternoon just slotting them.

Maybe in 15 years time we’ll have a decent striker

To be fair it was only a waste because we didn't win it (thanks to Fifa being a currupt bunch of a-holes). If we'd won it, it would have been a massive boost to sporting and transport infrastructure in Australia that would've benefited the NRL immensely. The rectangular stadium upgrades alone would've been huge.

I get the impression you aren't a fan of the round ball game....

I hate soccer..will not watch..never..

But when it comes to participation across the whole country, revenue, they're carpin all over the NRL.
AFL is streets ahead of NRL right now, and have been for a few years...

Yup, and both are more of a National competition than the NRL. yes AFL is very Melbourne centric, but you'll find more AFL fans in WA, SA and TAS in particular than you would NRL fans, and i'd imagine Soccer fans/players too.

NRL needs to branch out from the eastern seaboard.

Just last night I was watching a program about AFL players(GWS)in Wagga Wagga public schools running free coaching sessions..brainwashin em....

NSW/QLD have always been league to me but the AFl is leaving a footprint.

Rugby League as a whole has a lot to answer for...

While i wasn't a fan of what super league did to the game here, their model did make a lot of sense, much like how the A League started. Minimal teams in each city, teams in all the capitals (A-League missing a trick with Canberra though), a truly national competition.

If someone had the kahuna's to make those changes without tearing the game in two, we'd be in a much better place i reckon.

I’ve mentioned it here before, but whilst the NRL ignores the emerging issues for rugby league in the Canberra region. The AFL is implementing a strategic plan to make AFL the number one sport in Canberra.

Every GWS game on free to air, five times as many junior development officers, poaching the best league and union athletes over to AFL, lots of freebies and incentives to Canberra kids via schools and direct connections into the ACT government with excellent funding agreements.

The NRL commission is happy to let NRL die in the Canberra region, they don’t understand how to effectively use Canberra to keep the AFL enemy from their gates.

I’ve always had time for Soccer. With the NRL carrying on like clowns (Ref. Tired and worn down thread) I’m becoming more of a fan.

I liked the A League model with minimal teams in each city. I think the 3rd Melbourne and Sydney teams is a mistake. I think the priority should be;
Wollongong/Canberra/Tasmania
2nd attempt at Nth Qld
2nd Brisbane/Adelaide/WA

With Canberra, if the Phoenix consortium fail to get their ducks in a row, Canberra could have a license sooner rather than later

Phoenix currently in red hot form. Canberra Hope's of early A league entry are fading. It doesn't help that the current ACT Government doesn't support games played on open air rectangle fields.

Competent 3-0 victory over Palestine. We still have the Syrians to play in our group and we need another win. Sainsbury won't be able to play against Syria due to yellow card trouble. That will hurt our defence. A second win would get us through. We have the trifecta of injury, suspension and loss of form affecting player availability. We still should win though.

Victory over Syria 3-2 in stoppage time. Rogic finally hits one with no fiddling around to take the win. Possibly Japan next.

If anyone has the Optus EPL with the Mini Games. Watch the Wolves v Leicester 20 minute mini match.

Cracker of a game full of magic moments and unbelievable passes. You don’t have to be a Wolves fan like me to see why some newspapers called it the match of the season.

The only Australia game I haven't seen is the Palestine game. The Socceroos are in a real lull at the moment, we just have no real attacking threat at all. Most teams sit deep against us so our defenders sit on the halfway line playing the ball side to side like the old Simpsons parody until someone gets bored and hoofs it forward with a hopeful ball we're never going to score off. We're getting so little out of the main striker that for the next match i'd just play Leckie there and keep Mabil on the right. I think with Rogic suspended for that insanely ridiculous yellow card we have no choice but to just slot Luongo in there and hope he has a decent match. I don't rate him very highly though.

Arnie's substitutions are mindboggling. I do not know why when you're locked at nil all with almost all the 2nd half possession you take off Mabil who is one of our few attacking threats and one of our fittest players to bring on Leckie. I don't mind bringing Leckie on but he can play in a few different positions so drag someone else who isn't as threatening or fit. Then with mere minutes left to play before the penalty shootout he drags off Rogic who still looked most likely to score or create something and bring on Luongo who didn't take a penalty. Surely Rogic is a better option to take a pen than Behich? It was a mystery what he was thinking which is nothing new. I can't see us going past Korea in the Semi to reach the final if we don't get bundled out next game, we're just not good enough.
We continue to **** about with blokes that are part of some fraternity. It's infuriating.

From what I have seen we are missing Mooy very much. Little creativity without him. A shame he is injured.
