Leeds United v Cardiff

Npower Championship
Venue: Elland Road Date: Monday, 25 October Kick-off: 1945 BST
Coverage: Full commentary on BBC 5 live sports extra, online and BBC Radio Wales (all frequencies), live text commentary online, score updates on BBC Sport website and BBC Radio 5 Live. Live on Sky Sports 1

TEAM NEWS
Leeds manager Simon Grayson has no new injury or suspension worries, but could change his line-up following the abject home defeat by Leicester in midweek.

Goalkeeper Jason Brown could lose his place to fellow loanee Ben Alnwick, who recently arrived from Tottenham.

Craig Bellamy and Michael Chopra could again start for Cardiff after coming through Tuesday's win at Coventry unscathed.

Adam Matthews is available after returning from Wales Under-19 duty.

MATCH PREVIEW
Leeds manager Simon Grayson has bemoaned his side's inconsistency this season but also denounced the high expectation placed on them. The promoted club were 10th prior to the weekend fixtures and only one win shy of the play-off places.

Their level of progress will be gauged by how they fare against a Cardiff side determined to avoid the lottery of the play-offs following their heartbreaking defeat by Blackpool in last season's final.

Manager Dave Jones called periods of Cardiff's performance "breathtaking", and suggested that match-winner Jay Bothroyd could be worth an England call-up. Certainly, Cardiff boast phenomenal attacking options now that Craig Bellamy and Michael Chopra are fit again.

Cardiff also have an excellent recent record against Leeds, who have lost half of their home games this season and conceded 11 goals in their last four matches.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head

• Cardiff are vying for a fifth successive league win over Leeds and are unbeaten in their last four visits to Elland Road.

• The West Yorkshire club did the league double over the Bluebirds in 1983/84, but since then they have drawn three and lost five of eight league meetings.

606: DEBATE
Have your say on this match
Leeds

• Leeds have lost three of their last four matches.

• They have gained seven points from losing positions, a feat matched only by Cardiff and Norwich prior to the weekend.

Cardiff

• The Bluebirds have won three successive games and are unbeaten in five.

• Their defensive record is bettered only by QPR in this division.

we need to buy astutely during the next transfer window. this morning was painful to watch, worse than watching an off-form Raiders side.

I don't watch many Championship games, but if Cardiff play like that week in, week out, they deserve promotion this season. Their passing game was fast and crisp and some of the moves they were putting together would have opened up premier league defences.

We were schooled by Cardiff. They should have won promotion over Blackpool last year. Apparently they have some dodgy bookmakers anyways.

Looks like automatic promotion is def out of the question and top 6 should be the aim. Thats now 3 losses in a row at Elland Road, the pressure will be on Grayson to get us up the ladder before Xmas.

morale boosting 4-1 away win overnight against Scunny. Our away form is much better than our home form. Next up is Coventry Away. They are sitting 4th and will be tough.

We are on 20 points, 2 oustide the top 6.

Coventry 2-3 Leeds United

A very good away win against Coventry moves Leeds up to 8th on 23 points, one point outside the playoff zone and 10 point behind league leaders QPR.

We beat the high flyers in Coventry away and then drop 2 points with a draw to lowly Hull at home, its hard supporting two teams like this

3-1 win overnight against Bristol City (if we couldn't beat them I'd have been worried) featuring a treble to Becchio. 5th place now, still 8 points behind automatic promotion.

Next up, we travel to Norwich City. Tough game :(

We were up 2-1 in that game as well.

Still things are looking a bit better but having supported Leeds for many years I know that it can turn the other direction pretty quickly.

unbeaten run is now at 6 games after 0-0 stalemate with reading overnight. Thats two pretty tough away trips and while 2 points isnt great, its better than none. Next up is Palace at Elland Road. They are struggling big time, and while they were lucky to escape releagtion last year, look certainties to go down this campaign. A win here will keep us in the play-off spots.

Except they actually have a fan base, and have been far more successful, without the wooden spoons in intermediate years.
Oh, and they breed talent as well as purchasing it.
ALmost every Premier League team has a handful of players who came out of the Manchester United youth ranks. (a little like the Raiders, I'd say)

be careful that automatic promotion isnt a poison chalice. when you move up to premier league, you want to be their for quite a few years, not for just 1.

now now KW, i was only trying to raise a valid point in that you dont want to put in all that effort only to be relegated in your first year back into the premier league.
