I hope Cadel Evens wins the Tour De France, what a great Australian must be one of the most demanding sports.

I'd say it's the no.1 toughest sport..

I thought when he had his "mechanical issue" that he was gone for sure..

Cadel can do this.. but geez he's made a few mistakes along the way. Esp last night, instead of sitting on the tail of those looking to chase down the breakaway, he's was hesitating big time. Had to be on the Samuel Sanchez' wheel to put time on Andy Shleck last night.

Still, 57 seconds in a 42km time trial is not outside Cadel's ability.

Cadel is favorite on Betfair at 1.52. The bloke leading is at 2.5, so those in the know seem to rate his chances.
Would be a fantastic achievement if he can pull it off.

If Cadel can pull this off tonight it will be one of the great Aussie sporting acheivements.

Cycling isn't one of our mainstream sports, yet to have a guy who has a big chance of taking out possibly the most demanding of sports is making me proud to be an Aussie... the way he road last night with no help from other riders was simply inspiring.

If he pulls it off tonight I hope he gets all the Kudos he deserves from our media.

Cadel will ride into Paris as winner of the tour de france, what a champion.

Proud moment in Australian sport's history.

that was a beastly ride...

even last night when he pulled back another 30 odd seconds on Andy Schleck in the final 5 km...

you could tell Schleck burnt himself out with his do or die approach of trying to lose Cadel a few nights ago,..

The best sportsman in the toughest sport on the planet! This man is a legend!

What an insane ride too.. 2nd fastest for the stage! He look incredibly composed before getting underway yesterday.

Without a drug cloud, without a near-equally great brother helping you the whole way, with a 57 second gap, hitting the wall the night before and dropping back to a 3 minute gap.. to win in this fashion, is beyond amazing!

:cmon

for all the pain and suffering and setbacks, being runner up 2 years in a row, a few poor years, riding with injury. and losing your coach and mentor. i was abit teary to see him in the yellow jersey he deserves everything he gets cause he earned it through hard work a typical aussie battler

Ironically I thought Cadel's guttsiest effort was last year. Battled right to the end with a broken arm. Great to see things fall into place for him this year.

Anybody who is remotely interested with nothing better to do, chuck it onto sbs and watch the tour of spain tonight.

23% gradient at some points, and the last 6K will take approx 40-50 mins. absolutely insane.
