Previously unknown facts about ourselves
In the spirit of collegiality, the framework in which many men bond, I propose we talk about aspects of ourselves that haven't previously been discussed. I'll go first.
- I'm a single dad to 2 teenage daughters (13, 15)
- I love paragliding (kind of like hang gliding)
- I live in a crappy old QLD cottage in the middle of Bundaberg... It's rough, but it's mine.
Your turn.

Re: Previously unknown facts about ourselves
Sadly, there is not much you blokes don't know about me
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I visited Bundy a few times recently for work - not a bad place. I spend a day a week up the Road in Gladstone. Plenty going on in Gladstone at the moment.Albi wrote:In the spirit of collegiality, the framework in which many men bond, I propose we talk about aspects of ourselves that haven't previously been discussed. I live in Brisbane with my wife of one month and our two dogs.
Love league, AFL and fishing, but sold my boat as I have no time with work anymore.

Re: Previously unknown facts about ourselves
Like Dubs, I'm a bit of an open book on these forums. I will try to think about things that people wouldn't know about me....
1. I recently funded the construction of a chicken farm in Kenya, as a way of training young orphans (and supplying income/food to them).
2. My wife comes from an old samurai family. Her direct antecedents have included a prime minister, a resident-general, a baron, a finance minister, a foreign minister and more war criminals than you can wave a gulag at.
3. I was briefly an illegal immigrant in Switzerland

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

I'm a pretty new member so probably just about everything is unknown about me lol, but some odd things are:
#1 - I am the only one out of my 9 immediate family members who does not support the dragons
#2 - I have lived in 3 different countries.. (Australia 10yrs, USA 5yrs, Japan 1yr)
#3 - I can't stand frogs... I am litterally terrified of them.
#4 - I was ranked inside the womens top 200 for singles tennis in Australia for about 2 weeks during January, but fell back a bit after injuring my ankle and not playing for 2 months

Re: Previously unknown facts about ourselves
Me and my cousisn rebelled against the older generations in our family who supported the Eels, so we all went Dogs due to the big rivalry. I attended the 04 GF, and the after match fucntion with the players at the Canterbury Leagues Club. Even got a photo with the trophy (its blardy heavy). Basically, you couldnt have a better night as a rugby league fan. Always had a soft spot for the Raiders, growing up in Quang Bang, so decided it was time to move to 'greener' pastures. It has been tough - the Dogs were always a strong side and had many great players over the years, none better than Terry Lamb.dugan=mullins wrote:Why the change?KW wrote: Used to be a massive Bulldogs fan

I have not looked back though - i feel nothing for the Bulldogs these days. 135% Raider fan right here. And though I have copped many, many sprays and ridicule from friends and family members for being a turn-coat, I dont care. I am very close to turnging one of my biggest critics from a staunch Magpies (Tigers) fan to the green side. He's even signed up as a Member this year for the Raiders

Not a bad idea, Albi. Can I also ask that when people respond they explain what their user name means (if ambiguous)?
- Name is Shane
- Live in Canberra (grew up in Queanbeyan)
- Been with the same girl for 9 years and married for one
- Been a public servant for the past 9 years
- Am anal as all ****
- Sport / health and fitness take up most part of my week.
User name - the year in which I was born (so 26).
In light of some peoples' phobias - for me it's snakes and spiders, they can **** right off!

Found out last year that Gilfish is actually one of my mates from high school (didnt even know he was a raiders supporter )
My brother is also a Raider's fan and has account on here (though not sure if he still uses it or what the username is)
As for my user name - it's a nickname from primary school (started off as Aerobar, then Aero as people got lazier), the name stuck throughout high school and uni
