Fergo2012 is the most improved poster. From delivering home-made scrap books in person to Terry Campese's house in QBY (and posting about on TheGH in painstaking detail) to becoming "Lord of the Punt" within a calendar year.

Re: 2013 Golden Boogs Nominations
Not meaning to toot my own horn, but surely this is worthy of something
http://thegreenhouseact.com.au/forum/vi ... ers+poetryFuifui Bradbrad wrote:There was movement at the Greenhouse, for the word had passed around
That the one they call Papalii got away,
And had joined the shameful Eels - he was worth five hundred thou,
So all the cracks had gathered to the fray.
All the tried and noted posters from workstations near and far
Had mustered to the homepage overnight,
For the posters love death riding where when speculations afoot,
And the posos snuffs the battle with delight.
There was Greeneyed, who said with the Raiders he'll win the cup,
The old man with his hair as white as snow;
But few could stand beside him whenever Queensland was brought up -
He would go wherever topic and news could go.
And Rodman of the Posos came down to lend a hand,
No better poster ever struck the keys;
For never nego could throw him while his strongest points would stand,
He learnt to debate while crawling on his knees.
And one was there, a stripling who'd come on daily at least,
He stated that Paps was oversized,
With a touch of Third grade grammer - three parts kindergarten at least -
And such as are by Penrith locals prized.
He was hard and tough and wiry - just the sort that won't say die -
There was courage in his quick impatient posts;
And he bore the badge of gameness in his bright and fiery eye,
And the proud and lofty carriage in his boasts.
But still so incoherant, one would doubt his power to stay,
And the old man said, "That post will never do
If you want to post in here - lad, on point you better stay,
We are talking about Paps and so should you."
So he waited sad and wistful - only Nickman stood his friend -
"I think that post was on topic," he said;
"I warrant he'll be with us when all go round the bend,
For both his words and he are mountain bred.
"He hails from South Penrith, where Sydney's lights are bright,
Where the girls are twice as wrong and twice as rough,
Where a bogan's hands strike firelight and set their cars alight,
The man that holds his own is good enough.
And the Jamisontown posters in the houso's make their home,
Where the river runs by the Coffee Club;
I have seen full many posters since I first commenced to roam,
But nowhere yet such poster meets the rub."
So he went - they argued intently that Papa was well and truly gone -
They talked about the contract and its size,
And the old man said his words, "Boys, we'll get more news at dawn,
Until then keep your speculation wise.
And, Dubby, you must watch them, make sure they stay on point.
Post boldly, lad, don't be afraid to ban,
For never yet was poster that could keep up the mood in this joint,
If all else failed, they'd revert to Strawman."
So Dubby kept his eye peeled - he was watching for the swear
Where Lufty, Worm and Nickman take their place,
With his keyboard ready, he made the posters scare
With the edits, as he bet them to the race.
Then they halted for a moment, while he swung the delete key,
That they saw Papalii might have stayed,
And they charged to their keyboards with a sharp and sudden glee,
Their thoughts and opinions they all weighed.
Then fast the Tele followed, that Parra was going to sue
Resounded to the anger of their Tweet,
And the Greenhouse laughed at Buzz, and they fiercely answered too
Saying Papalii is staying, this is sweet.
And upward, ever upward, the mood began to rise,
When Don confirmed that they weren't giving up;
And Question muttered fiercely, something about fries,
I think he was drunk on Vodka and Seven Up.
When they reached the fourtieth page, even GEM was posting too,
It well might make Michael hold his breath,
The Furners are to blame, and they all should leave this crew
They way they run this joint,the only outcome was death.
But the man from South Penrith let the Negos have their say,
And he hit the reply button and gave a cheer,
And his lunch break came, he commented the time away
While the others stood and got drunk on their beer.
He got the negos firing, by laying down the bait,
He took all their sledges in his stride,
And the man from South Penrith got approval from his mate -
It was grand to see get the negos get a ride.
He said he didn't care that he went, he's on overs anyway,
The club would be better to let him go;
And they said he was mistaken, that he will be one of the greats ,
To see him go to Parra would really blow.
He said $400 thous too much, for a player so unproven
All he really did was knock Gal out,
If money's what he wants, then on he should be movin',
We will use Foster for our next bout.
Then they argued for a moment, some vile words were flung
The words they used, their character reveals
The posos all teamed up, and said he was worse than dung,
While all the moderaters keeping on their heels.
And the speculation followed, will he or won't he go.
The news and rumour followed round the track,
One mate knew a butcher, and he was in the know,
That Papalii was going and never coming back.
But this all proved untrue, and with Canberra he did stay,
He'd have to ignore Parra and their slur;
But on the Greenhouse the news put anger at bay,
And never again would a bad word occur.
And down by South Penrith, where the heat and traffic raise
Their torn and rugged wife beaters on display,
Where the girls are named Trinity, and the shop fronts set a blaze
At Panthers, the drunks and gamblers play,
And where around The Leagues Club the women sweep and sway
To the music, of AccaDacca they do boast
The man from South Penrith is a household word today,
And the Greehouse tells the story of his post.
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

We do need a host for the Golden Boogs. We can help the person set up the Survey Monkey survey and nominations. Volunteers?

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.
