Friendly banter means no harm unless your victorian
Re: 2013 State of Origin I: New South Wales V Queensland
I actually was born and raised in Canberra, and have only moved to Victoria this year so I still call myself a Canberran.
That's beside the point.
It may be a bit of banter, but I hear the same stupid whinging, name-calling, and carrying on every single year around Origin time, not just here but among friends and social media as well. I'm getting a little over it..

Yep I am, because it seems no one is capable of actually maintaining a mature discussion to do with Origin football without it descending into rubbish.

I think that happens in every sports discussion, the only difference is that we all support the Raiders here... I know when I talk Raiders to people who follow other teams, they inevitably want to bring up "Queanbeyan"... When I want to talk about Australia sport with English people, it inevitably falls into a discussion about how we're all "convicts", it's just how it goes...

Mate, we've lost 7 years of Origin, the only Blues fans here are true blue, all the poser Blues fans are currently in Maroon Jumpers... But I'm sure they will swing back round after Origin 2, when the series is decided.VictorTheViking wrote:We're not dragging you into this thread to read it tovii, and nor am I going to stop slinging barbs at these ridiculous new south wales posers

The problem is... We're not getting the 1 per-centers right, y'know... We get into a strong position and just drop our bundle... I don't get GE's argument about why the game went to Melbourne last year. If it was about crowd numbers, why move it to a smaller stadium where they were guaranteed a smaller crowd? It doesn't make sense and I call BS. It's a Qld conspiracy. Bitter filthy whingers.

Re: 2013 State of Origin I: New South Wales V Queensland
yeah totally agree... The reason they moved it is because they are trying to improve rugby league popularity in Victoria... It has nothing to do with NSW crowd numbers... I think someone needs to pickup the toys and put them back in the Maroon pram...Greenbits wrote:I don't get GE's argument about why the game went to Melbourne last year. edit- Although putting them back in their walker would probably be more appropriate...
Re: 2013 State of Origin I: New South Wales V Queensland
They obviously can't handle the fact that NSW do far more to promote the game than Queensland. Queenslanders, it's all about them.

NO matter what way you look at it, the ACT is NOT a part of NSW.
Avatar Bet - bleedgreen99 - Raiders to make (BG99)/miss(Lucy) the 8. Avatar from last round of regular season 2015 until GF 2016.
Signature Bet - Raider85 - Raiders to get(Lucy)/miss(R85) the wooden spoon. Signature for entire offseason.
Bottle of something to the value of $70 - Matthew Borewood to not see (Lucy)/to see (Piggles) a first grade game in 2015 for the Warriors.
The Name Change Bet - Regarding the three bets above;
I win all three I keep my name.
I win one I become "the Punish"
I lose all I become "Chicken Little"

If Sydney, NZ, Bowraville and Tenterfield are somehow QLD then ACT is NSW. You're argument is invalid.Worm wrote:NO matter what way you look at it, the ACT is NOT a part of NSW.

So if you played your first eligibility game for West Belconnen Sharks, you'd get to pick whether you're NSW or QLD?

If they were fair dinkum about it, you shouldn't be eligible for either. For some reason they say your eligbile for NSW even if you have never been a New South Welshman.Woodgers wrote:So if you played your first eligibility game for West Belconnen Sharks, you'd get to pick whether you're NSW or QLD?

As far as SOO is concerned, you are not correct.Worm wrote:NO matter what way you look at it, the ACT is NOT a part of NSW.
Canberra juniors are eligable for NSW, as per the rules (which qld frequently ignore)
This is S.O.O and if you're a canberran, you are a blue. Simple as that.

Eligibility will always be an issue...... For the losing state.
I predict NSW to win it next year and assert dominance for a short time. It'll be interesting to see how QLD handle that.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Why should you be forced to play for one and not the other? What happens if we have rep players coming through from Vic (Storm) now? Are they instantly NSW too because they share a border?

You are forced to play for one or the other in the same way someone from Cairns is 'forced' to play for QLD.
If they don't like it, they can opt not to play at all.

Re: 2013 State of Origin I: New South Wales V Queensland
I would imagine it is based on the early days of the competition, where there were no NZ or VIC teams in the competition. They would have wanted to include all players who grew up in RL heartland areas (which included ACT), but instead of having 3 teams with the ACT getting belted off the park every year, they included those players into one of the sides. NSW would have been the logical choice considering the ACT is entirely landlocked by NSW (and as GE agrees, is pretty much NSW anyway).Worm wrote:But why?
