51st min Shocking pass from Kurt Baptiste, with PNG in the red zone. One of the few opportunities they've had in the red zone. The Kumuls have completed at 1/6 in the second half, England 2/7. It is a dropathon.

56th min TRY ENGLAND to Ben Currie, it is the result of a great grubber to the wing from Widdop. It is just perfect. Good work from Ryan Hall in the lead up. Gareth Widdop converts from in front.

England 20-0

Meanwhile in the Women's World Cup... New Zealand 64 lead Cook Islands 0 after 62 minutes.

60th min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to winger Garry Lo. It looked like a forward pass live, but the referee has awarded it, no hesitation. Rhyse Martin converts from the sideline.

England 20-6

In the Women's World Cup, the Kiwi Ferns still lead 64-0 over the Cooks. There's 15 minutes remaining.

Why does Laurie Daley ask Jim Wilson what he thinks? I don’t think he has a background in RL but he is a pretty professional host.

What's your tip for the final, #Canberra #Raiders fans?

England into semis with win over PNG

England have marched into a Rugby League World Cup semi-final showdown with Tonga after an unconvincing 36-6 win over Papua New Guinea in Melbourne.

While winger Jermaine McGillvary set up the victory with two first-half tries, England coach Wayne Bennett will be fuming with his side's woeful completion rate.

ENGLAND 36 (J McGillvary 2 K Watkins 2 B Currie R Hall A Walmsley tries G Widdop 4 goals) bt PAPUA NEW GUINEA 6 (G Lo try R Martin goal) at AAMI Park. Crowd: 10,563

30th min TRY CANADA to centre Natasha Smith and she goes over for her second try of the night! Just barges over from dummy half. Scores it in identical fashion to the first. Fullback Irene Patrinos fails to convert.

44th min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to winger Martha Karl, she's unmarked and the Orchids run and pass it wide on the last. Shirley Joe's conversion attempt was well, well wide.

59th min TRY CANADA Great kick to the in goal from five eighth Stevi Schnoor, and it is chased and planted by half Sabrina McDaid. Terrific try and McDaid converts her own try.

This really has been a good game, and a very good performance from Canada. Would not have expected them to be leading by eight with a little over 10 minutes remaining.

76th min TRY CANADA to centre Nactasha Smith, that's a hat trick for her! That's the match to the Ravens! Who'd have thought! Irene Patrinos converts from the sideline! Perfect kick!

Canada 22
Papua New Guinea 8

Now the Orchids go for a short kick off... they're off side and it doesn't go the 10 metres.

FULL TIME

That was a very good game. It means Canada are likely to make the semi finals.

That's all we have for you today. We will be back next weekend when we will be live from Lang Park for the semi final between Australia and Fiji! Thanks for following!

How are you watching this?
The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias where individuals with low ability in a specific area grossly overestimate their competence. This often occurs because they lack the knowledge or skills to accurately assess their own abilities, leading to a false sense of confidence.

Canada win first ever World Cup match

It was a proud day for Canada Rugby League, with the women recording their first ever World Cup victory to the tune of 22-8.

The brave side came out on top against Papua New Guinea in an incredibly physical match to close out the second round of the group stages.

Canada 22 (N Smith 3, S McDaid tries; I Patrinos 2, McDaid goals) def PNG 8 (C Bulhage, M Karl tries)

Phil Rothfield having a go at Joe Tapine:

There is not a grubbier act in rugby league than attacking a defenceless opponent on the ground. Canberra Raiders and Kiwi forward Joseph Tapine tried to smash Fiji fullback Kevin Naiqama after the full-time siren in Wellington on Saturday. He needs to pull his head in.
