Re: 2021 NSW Cup
I wish they'd just stick Savage on the wing and let him develop and hone his skills there
I know it's very early in the guys development plan to say this and i've seen admittedly very little, he is an out and out winger in my mind and potentially an excellent one. Let me him continue to develop there

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Yeah I don't know what Rocky and Marra are doing on that one.
If Aekins was back playing in the team he'd likely still be playing fullback instead of Savage, meaning Savage would be on the wing. So if a cover is needed, why's it Savage and not someone else whose development isn't as important.... unless it's the case where his development isn't the highest priority here, and he's just being shifted around for the sake of the team, which I can't agree with.
Couldn't care less what the results are lower down tbh, so long as the young players with first grade potential are given the best shot for their own progress.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
If they weren't trying Savage out at fullback, to see how he goes there, he wouldn’t be there. They’d just have Adam Cook into No. 1 as they did initially. Looks like Cook has moved down the pecking order. I haven’t seen anything to suggest wing isn’t Savage’s best spot.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
What are they doing with O'Donnell? still starting at 9 or not with Siliva in there? I thought he showed a good trajectory last season

AT A GLANCE:
Last round: The Raiders broke their five game losing streak in NSW Cup on Saturday when they defeated the Newtown Jets, 20-10, at Henson Park. Raiders second rower Kai O'Donnell scored a double in the first half, giving the Raiders a 12-6 lead at the break. Neither team could trouble the score board attendant for the opening quarter of the second half, but a try to Newtown forward Siosifa Talakai in the 61st minute saw the home team get right back into the contest. However, it was the Raiders that finished the stronger. Half Brad Schneider crossed in the 68th minute, and then five minutes later set up prop Sia Soliola for the winning try.
The Canberra Raiders had 52 per cent of possession and came out in front of most of the attacking statistics. However, the Jets made more tackle breaks (37-27) and produced more offloads (15-6). Raiders coach Peter Marrapodi won't have been happy with the Raiders' missed tackle count (37, Jets 27) and their ineffective tackles (20, Jets 11). However, ultimately the Raiders only conceded two tries. Brad Schneider was a stand out for the Raiders, scoring a try and posting a line break, a line break assist and a try assist. Xavier Savage topped the running metres gained (186), while Trey Mooney (164), Kai O'Donnell (127) also impressed in that department. Sia Soliola (32), Brad Schneider (28) and Hudson Young (25) topped the tackle count for the Raiders.

This week: In Round 14, the Raiders return home after spending five weeks on the road. They meet the Blacktown Sea Eagles at Canberra Stadium, in the warm up for the NRL clash between the Raiders and Broncos. The Sea Eagles suffered some big recent losses at the hands of the ladder leading Magpies (46-6) and Panthers (52-5). But they then produced three straight wins over the Rabbitohs (30-18), Eels (34-24) and Knights (38-16). They suffered a 30-18 loss in Round 13 against the Bears at North Sydney Oval. But their recent form still compares well to the Raiders. Canberra has the better attacking and defensive record in 2021.
Season record: Raiders 4 and 7 (8th, -10)
Sea Eagles 4 and 6 (9th, -92)
Form: Raiders LLLLW
Sea Eagles LWWWL
Attacking record: Raiders 24, Sea Eagles 22 points scored per match
Defensive record: Raiders 25, Sea Eagles 31 points conceded per match
Team news: Caleb Aekins drops back to NSW Cup this week and has been named in the No. 1 jersey. Xavier Savage moves back to the wing as a result, while last week's debutant, Michael Asomua, retains his spot on the other wing. Matt Timoko has been promoted to first grade, with Adam Cook to fill the vacancy at centre. Adrian Trevilyan has been preferred at starting hooker, with Siliva Havili named on the bench. Trey Mooney shifts to starting prop, with Sia Soliola named in the NRL squad, while Harry Rushton will return at lock. Clay Webb returns to the side on the bench.

AT A GLANCE:
Last round: The Raiders put back to back wins together when they defeated the Blacktown Sea Eagles, 30-22, at Canberra Stadium in Round 14.
The Sea Eagles were the first to score when prop Phillip Makatoa crashed over in the 9th minute. The Raiders went to a 16-4 lead by the 25th minute, after piling on three straight tries. Winger Xavier Savage showed why Raiders fans are so excited about the youngster's speed - when he put the foot to the floor in the 14th minute. He just ran through the middle of a host of Sea Eagles players to score the Raiders' first try. Siliva Havili set up an incredible try in the 20th minute, by charging down a kick with his head and regathering the ball downfield. He then offloaded to five eighth Matt Frawley for the four pointer. Just a few minutes later, the Raiders produced some slick passing to put Adam Cook over out wide. However it was the Sea Eagles that went to the half time break with an 18-16 lead, after tries to winger Tolutau Koula and captain Brad Keighran.
The Raiders controlled the scoreboard in the second half, with tries to Darby Medlyn, Michael Asomusa and Hudson Young, giving the home team a 30-18 lead at the 75th minute. The Sea Eagles got a freakish consolation try, after a couple of kicks ahead right on full time.
The Sea Eagles had plenty of possession (60 per cent) and made plenty of running metres (1592 from 161 runs, compared with 1259 from 118 runs for the Raiders). But the Raiders posted more line breaks (5-4), tackle breaks (37-29) and kicking metres (404-242). Missed tackles from the Sea Eagles (37, compared with 29 for the Raiders) proved costly. The Raiders produced a 90 per cent effective tackle rate, the Sea Eagles 84 per cent. Michael Asomua (158), Xavier Savage (138), Adam Cook (109) and Hudson Young (109) topped the running metres gained for the Raiders. Kai O'Donnell (38), Hudson Young (37), Harry Rushton (29) and Trey Mooney (28) made the most tackles.

This week: In Round 15, the Raiders travel to Wollongong for a meeting with the Dragons. The 10th placed Dragons are coming off a 26-16 loss to Mounties on the Queen's Birthday holiday. They have recorded two wins in their past five games - against Mounties in Round 9 (36-22) and the Rabbitohs in Round 11 (40-18). They have also had recent losses to the Jets (44-20) and Magpies (26-18). Overall, the numbers point to a win for the Raiders in this one - but it will be a tough clash on the Dragons' home turf.

Form: Raiders LLLWW

Team news: Winger Xavier Savage has been named as a reserve in the NRL squad for the first time this week. He's replaced in the NSW Cup team by Manase Kaho. Elijah Anderson returns on the other wing, after he was 18th man last week for the NRL side. Michael Asomusa drops out. Harry Rushton and Ryan James have been named as the starting props, with Trey Mooney moving back to lock and Leo Thompson dropping to the bench. Hooker Adrian Trevilyan returns in the No. 14 jersey, while Ata Mariota and Clay Webb have moved onto the reserves list. Centre Harley Smith-Shields (biceps) makes a much earlier than expected return to the side on the bench.

Damn HSS already back this week.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Looks like they're not. They're doing the Panthers and the Bears right now, that's the only one they've announced in their preview: https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2021/06/1 ... ike-power/

Raiders running into a gale in the first half. Not often you see players at this level not kicking the ball out for a penalty but we just took the tap.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Try dragons. #16 Amore made a break. We got the defence back but they shifted and scored on the right through #5 McCann

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
After we get tackled 65m out from a Dragons drop out on the wing we go through the hands and Kano scores in the corner.
Schneider’s kick beach side into the wind was a million to one and he misses.
4-4
