Re: Coaching issues
We're seriously now going back to the merits of the Viking Clap? How soft are we?
Also, John Bateman was physically cactus by the time he left us. Well below NRL standard.

Re: Coaching issues
We probably should have seen this decline coming, in my opinion.
Operationally, we are a tactical, opportunistic club and have been since the end of our glory era. Sometimes, what we do works out well, resulting in decent seasons. Most years, however, we are a middling side or worse. Things will continue in this vein unless there is wholesale leadership change at the Raiders, and the club commits to a sustainable, realistic, ground-up strategy with clear milestones of success moving forward.
I think Botman mentioned the Penrith model at one point. We could do worse than attempt something like that.

Now crossing live to Canberra Stadium where Ricky Stuart's men aim to avoid the club's first wooden spoon since 1982.
The 3 man crowd of GE, Gangers and Seif are arriving for the Viking clap

Re: Coaching issues
We'd get 4k
They'll call it 9k due to season ticket holders who have "paid for a ticket" and promotional give aways that no one goes too
And GE will tell me the numbers are legit... oh how we'll laugh!

But GE is at the turnstiles with his clicker so he can rush to top of the staircase to signal to the altar that the goat can be sacrificed and the horn can be blown*
* once the clicker hits 10k of course.

*And provided the Raiders have hit the win rate of 73.2 per cent, as selected by the peanut gallery.

Now you're just being ridiculous. We won't get such a win rate till at least 2043greeneyed wrote:*And provided the Raiders have hit the win rate of 73.2 per cent, as selected by the peanut gallery.

Re: Coaching issues
Gosh 73.2 per cent seems a little low. I hope you’re only doing it on a finals night and checked it’s a blue moon and surveyed Azza to check if he’s feeling it…greeneyed wrote:*And provided the Raiders have hit the win rate of 73.2 per cent, as selected by the peanut gallery.

I always thought the Viking Clap was a bit of fun. Do people think it's for intimidation or something?

Re: Coaching issues
Haha. I suggest Don Furner comes out prematch and works his way through the biggest fails in Raiders history when the win% is below 73.
Re: Coaching issues
Gangers trying to have a go at others for being the fun police, fair dinkum, the ironing is delicious.
Edabomb I like the cut of your jib. Perhaps we could have Campeasy lead up the synchronised viking fart at the next home game.

Re: Coaching issues
The guy who sits in the row behind me in the Meninga stand could blow the Viking fart without even needing the speaker system to be heard.
Unfortunately the crowd would have to wait until late in the second half as it takes a while for the beers, burgers and chips to do their stuff.

Re: Coaching issues
I like this idea as generally it's the second halves where we STINK the most

Seriously. Just take a look around and see how many kids get into it and love it. My daughter begs to come to the Raiders, not because she enjoys watching the game but because she enjoys the experience, and the viking clap is a big part of it. She couldn't care less if the team won or lost. Anyone suggesting we get rid of it because we lost a couple of games just doesn't get it.Roger Kenworthy wrote: ↑April 27, 2022, 7:01 am I always thought the Viking Clap was a bit of fun. Yeah this is me. I thought it was a bit of fun, to try and create some atmosphere. Reserving it for finals, or when we’re winning reeks of “Packing up my toys and going home.”Raider Azz wrote:Seriously. Just take a look around and see how many kids get into it and love it. Bandwagoners get mocked when you only see them when we’re winning. You’d essentially be turning the clap into a Bandwagon activity.
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

Pedantic jackass police? Definitely
Fun police? Not seeing it
Happy for you to enlighten me. But I don’t believe I’m generally plumbing the depths of demanding a halt to a harmless optional activity that brings joy to others. Or criticising a venue for a promotion being not likely enough to give me free stuff.
Unless you guys get a kick out of being wrong, can’t say I’ve noticed any policing of fun…

Re: Coaching issues
Yup. The time to shelve it would be if a general mood of apathy kicks in amongst the crowd and we have about 30% participating Until that point it gives us something unique as a club to keep people engaged on gameday. It also comes across great on TV no matter the size of the crowd.Raider Azz wrote: ↑April 27, 2022, 11:33 amSeriously. Just take a look around and see how many kids get into it and love it. The opposition fans mocking it occasionally is a sign that it's permeated.
