We have issues with both.

Run through our 1-17 and count how many players are playing better now that 12-24 months ago. That’s age and application.

Sorry, who exactly?? We don't have an application problem. We have a skill problem
We have a coaching, selections, tactics, skills and application problem. Possibly a fitness problem. And we have a squad composition and recruitment and retention program problem.

Wouldn't they be multiple problems? Or are you rolling them all into a unified ball that constitutes a single problem? If the latter, I'll allow it.

Yes, our basic passing and kicking skills are lacking. Stuart also can't manage his bench. Never has.

For me we fundamentally also have an injury problem and an age problem. No team can go into a season without its first choice 7 and 9 and not feel the pinch.

Our best players are also 30+. That's a major issue.

Elliott isn't the most talented bloke, but one thing he does do, is put on effort. That's why Rick likes him. He knows what he is going to get.
Unfortunately non-talented effort players in key positions tend not to be indicative of premiership sides.
Most of his role is effort related though. It's the 20mins of hooker that isnt

Do u really think our pack is performing? We are worst or 2nd worse for meters gained. That application.

Papa, Tapine, CHN, and Horse are talented and skilful. But I've seen 3 of them play better.

Rapa and Cotric are talented and skillful, but Rapas had a couple of "Barry's" this yr, and until last night,Cotric had been barely sighted.

Yes, missing Fog, Hodgo and Jack doesn't help in that regard either.

It's a low bar when Elliott is suddenly worth keeping because he wasn't terrible against two of the worst teams in the comp.

How about we stop wasting cash on blokes who wouldn't play at 12 other clubs and start actually buying or developing better players.

Depends on what position you see him as.
I think he would make plenty of benches, but not too many starting 13s

I agree with Bonehead. No one was interested in Elliott when he was terminated. I think he's borderline FG and performing well against Canterbury and NZ doesn't say much. Let Newcastle pay overs for an inconsistent borderline FG

we won't always agree but I know we agree that we want to see our club back in the top 4 and we're not seeing anything from the club that suggests they know how to do that.
You can't just extend the same top 20 and hope for better luck, we need to freshen up.

Adam Elliott is trading largely off Millie Boyle imo

If they weren’t a package deal, I doubt he’d be getting much, if any interest at all

I suspect the raiders will stump the cash to ensure they have Boyle on deck for the launch of their WNRL team

Agree with this. If Elliott is even near our best it's more a sign that we're in big trouble and the rest of the squad is playing well below their ceiling. It's like those years where Josh Jackson was the Bulldogs best, or Fensom our best player.

Said that from the start. And it's also a big reason why the Knights want him too.

Canberra Raiders looking to extend Adam Elliott by further two years

The Raiders are looking to extend versatile forward Adam Elliott for a further two years after coming to the club on just a one-year deal.

"We are in healthy discussions. Both parties have got a really healthy appetite to make sure things are sorted out and I think we'll get to that quickly," Raiders recruitment boss Kelly Egan said.

Happy with this! Shown enough over the last few weeks to say he’s an asset (at the right price).

Millie Boyle inaugural captain of our Woman’s side too??

Not to take anything away from Millie, Im sure shes very good but is she really worth setting back the 1st grade side to sign her?

Hopefully theres someone on here that watches the womens comp and give some type of imsite.

Ask me to name any one in that comp and I wouldnt be able to, other then Millie (who ive only learnt her name because of elliot and his anticd last year) and that big fijian girl.

Adam Elliott was on ABC radio yesterday afternoon, late. He said he had told his manager that he wanted to get through Round 10 before he seriously considered offers, wanted to have an opportunity to get settled in Canberra and have an impact. He also said that he and Millie Boyle are not a "package", as the NRLW season is so short. He basically said that the commitment is 10 weeks apart, but even then they can still spend their days off together during the NRLW season. He didn't say anything about whether he wanted to stay in Canberra, but didn't say he didn't want to either.

I reckon I’m just about done with this club if we give this spud another 2 years following 2 cameo roles against 2 of the worst sides in recent NRL history.

The prospect of Rick coaching and Elliott spudding it up in a starting squad in 12 months time is one of the most depressing things I can think of. It’s like a bad dream we can’t wake up from

If he plays consistently like he has the last two weeks how could you not give him two years? He has been head and shoulders above most of the players in energy and fight.
May have found his role now and looks comfortable. Lot of hate here for him but on last two week’s form that’s on personality not form and effort.

So has it taking him 8 rounds to start playing consistently? Playing good for 2 weeks should not warrant a 2 year extension. There should be absolutely no rush to sign him I highly doubt there's any interest at all. And I highly doubt he's found his new role as our starting hooker if that's the case we've lost the plot.

So in our squad of 30 we have off contract

Hodgson gone - we couldn't afford to keep him so his money is spent.
Sutton gone
Frawley off contract
Sammy off contract
Elliott off contract

How exactly are we improving our squad by extending Elliott? He's on 275k so he'll want a rise.
If we want to improve then replace 4 of those with juniors and 1 marquee edge backrower.
