Canberra Raiders' COVID boost with ATAGI medical exemptions
Unvaccinated Canberra Raiders who have contracted coronavirus are eligible for a four-month medical exemption following their infection. Canberra have confirmed they still have two unvaccinated players and it's believed both of them have also contracted the virus. There are vaccine mandates in Queensland and Victoria, but the exemption could allow both players to make the club’s first two trips to Queensland.

That kicks a problem a little further down the road. Hope the 2 players are good enough to put us in a position to play home finals because if we play first week finals in QLD or Melbourne it will likely still be an issue.

I wouldn't be worried. They will probably catch it again after their first game before the bye week and will be clear til the end of the season.Billy Walker wrote: ↑February 4, 2022, 5:51 pm That kicks a problem a little further down the road. Whomever convinced NAS, get that person here in 3 months time - allowing for contracted time and wiggle room
Re: Canberra Raiders' COVID boost with ATAGI medical exemptions
who says he's vaxxed? Possibly he's had covid and in his 4 months grace period. He was quoted as saying he'd take the novavax shot.Matt wrote:Whomever convinced NAS, get that person here in 3 months time - allowing for contracted time and wiggle room

Nelson Asofa-Solomona has provided Melbourne Storm with all necessary information and certification to comply with Victorian and Queensland Government requirements to allow him to return for training and to play.
I'd say Boney is on the money. He's pulling a Novak and will probably catch covid again at precisely the point of the season where this exemption runs out - that is if the government requirements are still in place.

The phrasing they used contained the word 'certification'. Which you only get if vaxxed. Otherwise it would be an exemption.gergreg wrote: ↑February 5, 2022, 9:09 amI believe the statement released by the club was:bonehead wrote:who says he's vaxxed? Certification could simply mean compliance with the rules. If he's received a vaccination why wouldn't you just say he's vaccinated. Sounds exactly like Aaron Rodgers.Matt wrote:The phrasing they used contained the word 'certification'. Which you only get if vaxxed. ‘A bit cautious at the moment’: Raiders forward the only unvaccinated All Star
Canberra forward Joseph Tapine is the only player involved in the All Stars match who remains unvaccinated. He has avoided getting the jab because of “reactions to past vaccinations”, claiming he was “a but cautious at the moment. I’ve had Covid already. I think that has natural immunity.

Canberra forward and Maori co-captain Joseph Tapine told The Sydney Morning Herald he will take to the field for Saturday's All Stars game having refrained from being vaccinated because of "reactions to past vaccinations".
"I'll see what goes on and look at all the regulations," Tapine said. "At the end of the day, my wife [Kirsten] and I will sit down and make a decision about what I want to do."

Re: Three Raiders now in isolation
Canberra Raiders' COVID travel dilemma as winger Jordan Rapana also in isolation
The Canberra Raiders now have three players in COVID-19 isolation. Raiders winger Jordan Rapana is part way through his seven-day isolation, with Canberra back-up halves Sam Williams and Matt Frawley starting their own personal lockdown after Williams returned a positive rapid antigen test before last night’s trial.
The loss of Williams and Frawley left Raiders coach Ricky Stuart throwing up the suggestion every player will need to get their own hotel room, but it's unclear whether the NRL would be willing to stump up the cash to cover that.

Canberra Raiders' Joe Tapine still considering COVID vaccine options
Joe Tapine is still deciding whether he'll get vaccinated against COVID-19 and is yet apply for an exemption. The New Zealand international has had the coronavirus, making him eligible for a four-month medical exemption from being vaccinated - which would allow him to play in Queensland in Rd 2 and 8. Tapine could be forced to sit out another four games in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Melbourne.
"I'm just going with the flow at the moment and taking it day by day, and see what I'm going to do. I don't really know at the moment. I'm open minded. I'm just cautious at the same time. I'm just going day-by-day.

Gee this is disappointing to read. There are things in life where you just need to defer to expertise of others. If Papa wants to make any statements about how to be a great league player I’m listening intently. His uneducated views on this are embarrassing, unhelpful and really disappointing.

Its actually quite scary the number of people who take their advise from celebrities and I wonder if the celebrities ever think about the consequences of the advice/opinion they give
There were young women paying literally hundreds of dollars to go listen to Bryce Cartwright's wife give parenting advice including not vaccinating and diet. What qualifications has she got to say what she does? She has no more experience then any other parent with 2 little kids.
The nrl/club wouldn't allow players to make comments against the lgtq community based on their religious beliefs, really they shouldn't allow them to go against the pro vax argument the nrl supports

The kind of women who pay money to listen to Bryce Cartwright's nobody ex missus would already be anti-vax hippies. They aren't there to learn, they're there to re-affirm their delusions in a echo-chamber of like-minded individuals. She's preaching to the converted.

It's concerning the amount of people who think they can learn more in 10 minutes of research than the collected knowledge of thousands of hours research by tens of thousands in a highly specialised field.
It really shows you how insular some people are in their thinking.

He is refusing to get a vaccine. Does that make him a complete ****? Yes. Has he commited any crime? No. Other than the vaccine thing, is he a bad influence on the rest of the team? No. So again, why would we want to move on one of our best players?
You know Papalii has also refused to get the vaccine? Should we move him on too?
Do you want to win a premiership or not?

I’d suggest the answer to your question about wanting to win a premiership has a lot to do with Sprintman’s post about establishing a better culture at the club.
I’m not advocating shipping Papa or Tarps off a week before season launch but I am very much in the camp of setting and communicating a higher standard for the club. Most importantly it’s essential that standard is upheld no matter how uncomfortable it might become.

Re: Canberra Raiders' Joe Tapine still considering COVID vaccine options
If not getting a vaccine is not affecting their ability to play (if they were no longer able to obtain an exception and therefore could not travel interstate/overseas that could certainly change things), then again I say - why the **** would we want to move them on?
What the **** does not getting a vaccine have to do with "setting a higher standard"? Again, they are complete morons, BUT, there is no crime being commited. There are no suggestions that their decision has negatively affected the overall culture of the club. Apart from some poor judgement and reading too many online quacks on the toilet, they are and continue to be a net benefit to the team. Tapine is so well respected that he was named captain for the Maori All Stars, and Papalii was widely suggested as captain when the subject came up on this very forum, and is a mainstay in the Qld and Australian teams.
So I'll ask the question again - do you want to win a premiership or not? Moving two of your best, most respected players on - two guys that would be absolute key to winning a premiership, purely because they don't want a vaccine for their own stupid reasons boggles the mind.
