Panthers very impressive against the Sea Eagles in Rd1. A comprehensive 28-6 win. The defensive prowess of 2021 was back as Turbo rarely was given an opportunity and the Panthers regularly picked up the Manly ball carrier and carried them back towards their own goal line breaking any attacking momentum they were looking to build. For defensophiles like me it was beautiful to watch. Manly had no answers.

Cleary out injured and Capewell and Burton gone elsewhere - No problem for the Panthers.

Penrith Panthers club statement

Penrith Panthers can confirm that Queensland Police have charged player Taylan May with assault occasioning bodily harm.

The charge relates to an incident that occurred in November 2021, while May was on leave following the 2021 NRL season.

The club was made aware of the incident at the time, informed the NRL Integrity Unit and undertook an investigation into the matter.

The club subsequently implemented disciplinary measures against May, while giving fair consideration to the circumstances of the incident, and deemed the matter finalised.

The NRL has not imposed any disciplinary measures against May, therefore he is eligible for NRL selection.

As the matter is now before the courts, the club will make no further comment until those proceedings have concluded.

The May parents must be so proud of their boys.

The Panthers should probably be disMay’ed.

Find it ironic the Panthers have a sook about Hughes comments re: Mt Druitt while their own fans mock the Viking clap.

Also, due to these post code gang violence should these players be using their handshakes etc in TV? Isn't that incendiary to gangs in other post codes?

Penrith Panthers Taylan May banned for two matches after being found guilty of assault, but doesn't have to serve them in the finals

The National Rugby League (NRL) today issued Penrith Panthers player Taylan May with a Breach Notice alleging a breach of the NRL Code of Conduct following an incident in Maroochydore on October 8 last year.

On 31 August 2022, May was found guilty of assault occasioning bodily harm by Maroochydore Magistrates Court.

The Breach Notice proposes a match suspension of 2 NRL Premiership Competition Matches, to be served at the commencement of the 2023 NRL Telstra Premiership, a fine of $7,500 (50 percent suspended) and a requirement that May attend such counselling, education and training as recommended by the NRL’s Education and Wellbeing team.

May will be permitted to play in the 2022 NRL Finals Series.

In proposing the timing of the match suspension, the NRL considered a number of factors including when the incident took place, the date at which the proceedings were finalised and the impact of a match suspension at this time of year.

It is proposed the fine and education requirements be effective immediately.

May has 5 business days to respond to the Breach Notice.

NRL media release

This is extraordinary, difficult to believe and absolutely ridiculous! They were just discussing it on NRL 360, and apparently the NRL said that finals games are more important than regular games! Talk about double standards.

Meanwhile, the NRL won't even contribute a cent to the Raiders' charter flights to Melbourne. Not even the amount that they would have paid for commercial flights.

An incident from 2021 so the NRL decides to hold the penalty off until 2023. Makes sense.

There’s no way the NRL would be that lenient to delay the suspension if it was a Raiders player. Just proves how much the NRL hates us

Not sure if you’re being serious. But I am of the belief that this sort of leniency would only be accorded to a select few clubs and would never be accorded to a club like Canberra or the Warriors… probably quite a few others.

NRL would have been better off saying they would defer a decision till after the finals. Left themselves open for criticism and yet more claims of bias.

It's funny, cause Penrith have never struck me as a glamour club likely to get a leg up.

There is definitely bias around the NRL in general towards Sydney teams.

Look at the Blues line-up this year. Talakai, Crichton and Burton selected ahead Wighton, who was the best player in game one.

All from Sydney and one has a beard, which is basically a lock from a NSW selectors position.

Also, Martin isnt an origin player if he isnt playing for Penrith.

To be fair, a lot of that is because Freddie Fittler is a deadset idiot.

Careful, that line of thinking will get you called stupid around these parts. It isn't that Liam Martin isn't actually that great, the answer is for all teams to "become Penrith" so he looks good no matter who he plays for.

The Panthers or Storm - all you need to do is find a Smith, Cronk and Slater. Throw in a coach as good as Bellamy for good measure.
