Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Raiders are apparently in the mix to sign Eliesa Katoa from the warriors. If nothing else, it's good to see we're in the market for an edge forward. Anyone know if he is any good?

We’d be better of getting Jack Murchie back. Should never have been released.FROG wrote: ↑July 23, 2022, 8:22 pm Raiders are apparently in the mix to sign Eliesa Katoa from the warriors. If nothing else, it's good to see we're in the market for an edge forward. Anyone know if he is any good?

We need an edge forward. I dont know that either Murchie or Katoa are any better than what we have tbh
And certainly if Whitehead's position is untouchable... eh

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Surely CHN would be lead candidate and then we are signing a backup?

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Katoa looked a real talent in his first season. Has not developed at all but I think there's a good footy player in there in the right system.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Agreed. And considering the second row situation at Canberra currently.... a cut price Katoa would be good business imo.kiwi raider wrote: ↑July 24, 2022, 9:16 am Katoa looked a real talent in his first season. Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
I don't think Katoa or Murchie would be significant upgrades to what we already have.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Nah katoa or murchie not worth it, katoa gone backwards and murchie always plays well against us not so much against other teams, chn mooney are our2nd rowers cause whitehead still taking a spot they are the backups which is annoying, i want spencer leniu of the panthers to replace sutton and have him taps pappa horsburgh as front row rotation next year , we will own the middle

I like Leniu as well. Young, good metres and leg speed, fast play the balls. He would be awesomedaley6 wrote: ↑July 24, 2022, 9:37 am Nah katoa or murchie not worth it, katoa gone backwards and murchie always plays well against us not so much against other teams, chn mooney are our2nd rowers cause whitehead still taking a spot they are the backups which is annoying, i want spencer leniu of the panthers to replace sutton and have him taps pappa horsburgh as front row rotation next year , we will own the middle

There's no spot for a new prop imo.
Front row:
Tapine
Papalii
Hors
Guler
Mooney
Rushton

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Assuming we keep Tapine, middle forward is not a position I think we need to recruit in
I think our depth there is super strong, we got 4-5 deep of legit fg quality footballers, and we’ve got a couple of young blokes who are ready to step up

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Rushton was looking so strong at edge but alas not to be.
I'm biased but I'd love to see us go after Morgan Gannon from Leeds, he's barely 18yo and enormous wraps, his brother is handy too but on loan as he couldn't crack a start at Warrington.
They'd come out here if they could stay relatively together, their father was a knights junior and played a season of top grade at the tigers.

For those that rave about Drinkwater and think we should sign him, watch him play. He sucks. He’s dropped it cold about 3 times so far today.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Drinkwater has gone well in a winning team, but historically he has been very prone to errors.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Drinky makes his errors at about the rate Jack and Savage do.
His attacking output is up there with the best in the game though.
Whether it is a good idea to put Drinky in the same team as those other two... not sure. Not the kind of player we need chasing right now. Savage might have similar attack by the time he's 25 and have cut the errors down too.
We should be looking at halfbacks and second rowers as the only major targets.
Maybe a winger with some toe (not sure how quick Anderson or Asomua are in the scheme of things).

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
According to zero, Tesi Nui is the one that will be pushed from the Broncos.
While I think our outside backs are punching above there wait at the moment, throwing him in to the mix would be a good addition.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
I disagree. Rushton hasn't played edge for over 12 months. And Mooney is incredibly out of position on an edge. Lock yes. Edge no.

Playing Mooney second row is like playing Payne Haas second row
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
I mean im sure they're both good enough athletes to get out there and hold their own if they have to mid game, but i think both are pretty clearly heading for careers as middle forwards
Someone like Katoa might not be a major upgrade or one at all, but we do need genuine edge forward depth on the roster

We definitely need a second rower - I am still hopeful we are kicking the tyres on Liam Martin because I think we'd have a shot at getting him.

Get on the blower BH! Can't have enough young middles coming through.bonehead wrote: ↑July 24, 2022, 12:17 pm Rushton was looking so strong at edge but alas not to be.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Katoa is an upgrade because we don't have depth. We have middles up the waa-zoo, but no edges.Botman wrote: ↑July 25, 2022, 11:47 am I mean im sure they're both good enough athletes to get out there and hold their own if they have to mid game, but i think both are pretty clearly heading for careers as middle forwards

Also, if the plan is to roll with Rushton at 13 next yr. We need some bigger, meter eater edges too. Coz Rushton is a Yeo/Murray/Radley, mobile guy, so you'll need the yardage elsewhere. Katoa is big enough to be that.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
I've often wondered how Cotric would go on the edge.
I know he was ordinary at centre but his got the footwork and size to be a very dangerous 2nd row player.
(Yeah, obviously he'd have to straighten up his running game ).

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Katoa looks like a player that gets converted to prop, 110kg and tall. I'm still all for Jack welsby for left centre and fullback option. Jazz tavaga as 13 and stop gap 9. Lastly which is purely a punt and see how it goes is Peter hiku training as a Second rower to see how he takes to it.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
Gannon boys are edges.
@mr posh I see Jacob is on loan to Bradford

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2022
I am a big fan of Katoa and for what you get him for could end up being a real bargain. With the right coaching I can see him have a break out season much like Papali’i did on his move from the Warriors to Eels.Matt wrote:Katoa is an upgrade because we don't have depth. Unfortunately I think he will end up at the Storm, they are losing a ton of forwards and he looks like a typical storm pick up.
