Raiders player signing speculation 2022

Bottom 8 this season - probably 9th or 10th.
My expectations have been adjusted accordingly...

Got to admit I think we are long shots of making the 8. I don’t like what has been popping up on the socials and think it may end up in plenty of excuses.
On top of that I don’t think our roster is necessarily better then 8 other teams.

Hopefully my pessimistic mindset means it is an enjoyable year.

There's some pretty terrible rosters out there. I think we'll see an "edge of the 8" similar to last year with a 7-10 group and a drop off to 11. We'll be in that 7-10 group.

I see us as a 6-12 kinda team. With a few things going our way, we can get to 6th. If we get injuries or COVID, then 12th is a shot. So, same same.

I think if we dish up the same stuff we produced in 2021, it will be a horrible year for us. However, if we're not afraid to try a few things like giving Savage a crack at fullback and if our squad plays to its full potential, there's no reason we can't be as high as fourth or fifth.

I think we're an 8-12 team. I see the top 7 being Panthers, Storm, Roosters, Manly, Eels, Sharks, Rabbitohs.

We'd be fighting it out with the likes of the Knights, Titans, Bulldogs for 8th spot.

I see Warriors, Broncos, Dragons, Tigers, Cowboys rounding out the bottom teams (in no particular order).

Of course, all of this is Covid-dependent. It really won't take much to really screw around with results/positions when half a team is in isolation for multiple weeks throughout the year. It could really make or break a team's season.
Ata Mariota’s #1 fan. Bless his cotton socks.

Segeyaro has signed with some team. I wonder if it us. I know he has had a checkered past, but he would be a good pick up.

With Hodgo leaving at the end of Season 2022 I get that there is a push to buy a player with FG experience for a key position. The Raiders though seem content to develop the youngsters coming through, with Adrian Trevilyan at the head of the next gen Hookers, along with the likes of Stanley Iongi and Toby Thorburn.

Looks like at some point the Raiders were sniffing around Hynes. Guess they aren't 100% convinced on CNK or perhaps his fitness after his neck injury.

Or they saw him as a half option before we signed Fogarty.

Raiders keep their player signing investigations and negotiations pretty close to their chest these days.

We used to get regularly burnt back in the late 90s and 2000s. Every player manager was using us for their own benefit.

Hynes would have loved surfing Lake Burley Griffin.

Well, we called at least! Probably too late…

Interesting to read Sam Williams turned down a move to Toulouse in the ESL to remain in Aus.

Toulouse Olympique's halfback hunt hits setback as NRL playmaker turns down move

Toulouse Olympique's hopes of strengthening the squad have suffered a setback after being unsuccessful in their attempt to sign Sam Williams. The newly-promoted French club held talks with the halfback, who had previously played in France for Catalans Dragons.

But the 30-year-old ultimately decided against the move due to personal reasons, quashing Toulouse's hopes of finding a replacement for Johnathon Ford.

Want to bet that Sammy is going to be in a coaching role next year? Ricky rates his advice.

Does anyone know if HSS being out for the season means the Raiders could replace him in the Top 30 with a new recruit?

They can’t do that. But the new rules mean that NSW Cup players from outside the Top 30 or development list of six can be brought in from Rd 1 due to COVID and can be considered for any reason after Round 10: https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/02/17/exp ... vid-cases/

There’s only (limited) salary cap relief for a player injured in a representative fixture.

Thanks GE. It's something for the NRL to look at I reckon. If a player is injured before the competition starts and it rules him out for the season, I wonder why another Top 30 player could not be recruited. The Club/s in this position start the season behind those who do not have injury prior to the competition beginning.

Sounds good Red, but these sort of arrangement also need to be balanced with the concept that the salary cap is ostensibly there to prevent clubs from spending beyond their means. Bit of a slippery slope if every seriously injured player can be replaced with a new signing.

Dunno. Maybe it's just bad luck for us.

Yeah, it could be open to exploitation. I agree with Red though. Something that could be changed so teams aren't left short for the entire regular season. Could be as simple as being allowed to add a player to the NRL squad from their current player pool. None of the round 10 restrictions. Caveat being the player ruled out cannot be brought back in even if they do recover.

Agree with that NR, the injured player would be out for entire season.

I understand the Salary Cap consideration S82 but I don't think Clubs should be a player short before a season begins.
