Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad to quit Canberra Raiders, join Warriors in 2023

Canberra fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad is set to quit the club and join the Warriors throwing fresh doubts over Reece Walsh’s long-term future at the club. It is understood Nicoll-Klokstad told his Raiders teammates on Tuesday that he plans to return to New Zealand at the end of the season. The Raiders are expected to release Nicoll-Klokstad from the final year of his deal for family reasons.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

All the best Charnze.

He was really good for us, especially in 2019. Unfortunately his form regressed from there to the point that he is basically a shadow of his former self, and lacking in confidence. Hopefully he can rediscover some form back home.

Wish him all the best, I'm kind of sad but understand. Hope we aren't paying any freight on this one.

Now to deal with the Croker and Whitehead contracts .....

All the best to Charnze. Good outcome for both clubs. He can see his kids again and the Warriors current outside backs are all time bad, so good upgrade for them.

He served the club well.
I think both parties probably got above what they each expected initially.

In my dealings with the club the last few years there have always been some polite, nice blokes. Jack and Jarrod always keen to get to know you, but Charnze was always that next level. Always offering help if you needed a hand. Genuinely the nicest Raiders player I have ever spoken with. Best of luck Charnze, and thankyou for everything.

No one has done it tougher at our club. Been away from his boys for years and deserves nothing but well wishes from us.

Pretty clear this has been on cards for a while now and I think we are well prepared for it.
Thanks Charnze; your sacrifice is appreciated and your work, especially in 2019, very much valued.

It's sad to see him go. He is one of my favourite players over his time at the Raiders. He gave his all. He's not been the same since his injury. Plus with Savage making his debut and CNK probably being homesick and the Warriors heading back the NZ. He'd be happier.

Good luck to CNK. I guess this has been in the works for some time, given a while back he promised one of his boys he would never miss son's birthday ever again. Must be very tough to be separated from his children. He played terrific football in 2019 and good football prior to his neck injury.

Thinking about the consequences and the future, Savage must now stay at fullback for the rest of the season.

Not surprising and I think it’s for the best for both clubs and player
He’ll be really good for them, he’s been really good for us. Always gave his all, worked hard, was a great off field presence and was a vital cog in the 2019 run
I’ll remember him and his run here fondly

Good news on both counts imo. Was a sensational signing. Played his heart out. Not good enough in attack to be an NRL fullback.

Great signing for them. Hard worker. True Kiwi. Will slot straight in at centre.

Good to have his contact off the books because we have blokes who can play centre cheaper probably as well and Canberra need a different solution at fullback.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Good luck Charnze and thanks for all the effort. Gave us a HUGE lift with that breakout first season, when we were really stuffed without a FB at all and he rose to the occasion really well.

Bloke had a heart the size of Phar Lap and gave 100% every time.

One of the outstanding defensive fullbacks. Topped the running yards for NRL FBs one season I think (or thereabouts), which was credit to his bravery too, made a ton of tough yards.

Will be interesting to see how the Warriors use him.

Hard to think of a more wholehearted player in that 2019 run - he just came from the clouds to click into the spine and I still vividly remember him cramping after 230-odd run meters in the GF.

Really nice guy to boot.

Thanks Charnze, all the best across the ditch

Canberra Raiders set to lose star fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad to New Zealand Warriors

When Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad asked to go home to be closer to his two sons, Ricky Stuart didn't hesitate.

"I don't want to lose Charnze, but it's a no-brainer in regards to his welfare in being closer to his children at this stage of their lives. There's no way I would stand in the way of that."

Weird quote. I think what he meant to say was
"I don't want to lose Charnze, but it's not my decision. The CEO felt in regards to his welfare in being closer to his children at this stage of their lives. But honestly you're best asking him, im not invovled in that stuff."

Was just amazing for us, punching out those 200+ metres every game. Running until he's in total (cramp) hell. Defensively very good. Such a fantastic guy too. All the best to him.

Good for everyone concerned. Great signing in his first few years. Won't be at all surprised to see him really bounce back for the warriors next year. Be that at centre, wing or Fullback. He'll walk in to their backline

Is that a quote from Ricky suggesting Don actually DOES the contracting and Ricky just coaches who he's given?

I can't read the paywall.

Last year I would have been devastated receiving this news. This year he has struggled for confidence such that I'm indifferent. When fit and confident he is the best defensive fullback in the comp. Whether he can get back to his best is debatable, but I wish him well
