Man there is a lot of good press around the Raiders this week. Obviously Cleary and Luai being out is enormous, but let's not forget the way the Panthers absolutely bullied us earlier in the season. Even though the score didn't blow out to embarrassing levels, it was still as big a mismatch as you will ever see at NRL level. We're going to need to play really well to compete in this one, even with some big outs from their team.

This reminds me of a number of manly games where a combo of DCE / Turbo were out. Should be a cakewalk.
Re: 2022 Rd 21 V Panthers: Teams and Previews
Definitely going to be a hard game, I watched the highlights of the earlier game this year , cleary and crighton carved us up, luai aswell, so hopefully crighton out with the other 2 , we had rapa at full back , savage on wing , valemi in the centres and cant remember the halfback but wasnt fogarty, we need the playing against Melbourne mentality for this game , this game will be won or lost between the ears of the raiders playerstwistedbydesign wrote: ↑August 2, 2022, 1:21 am Man there is a lot of good press around the Raiders this week. I really don't like the narrative being touted by the media of us being in the box seat to beat Penrith, complacency is one of our primary issues and Penrith are far better than just one or two individual stars...

Yep, that’s true! I just hope we show up like the Melbourne game and put in a good strong performance. Hope whitehead aims up and just gets in the face of Kikau.Raoul Duke wrote: ↑August 2, 2022, 7:42 am I really don't like the narrative being touted by the media of us being in the box seat to beat Penrith, complacency is one of our primary issues and Penrith are far better than just one or two individual stars...
Markers and a n b defenders put some pressure on Yeo… and not forgetting about Korisau…. No doubt yeo will be ball playing in the middle..
We can’t afford to be playing catch up against the panthers

I won’t get to excited about the Riff game just yet.
Our form has been delicious, 8 from our last 11. But we’ve had moments of pure crazy unscripted madness in some of those wins..(Knights)
We’ll need to be on song for the entire 80mins and I haven’t seen that yet.
The Storm win in Melb was beautiful..again !!!

Anyone who doesnt think we could lay a massive stinking egg and get absolute beaten down by the panthers back up halves doesn't know their raiders footballRaoul Duke wrote: ↑August 2, 2022, 7:42 am I really don't like the narrative being touted by the media of us being in the box seat to beat Penrith, complacency is one of our primary issues and Penrith are far better than just one or two individual stars...

They dominated us totally. We did well for it not to be a blow out.
They are gonna be hard to beat.
My calcs.. we secure a top 8 spot with a win on Saturday. Are toughest opponent is Manly who we struggle to beat.
So its winning either against panthers or manly plus all other games where we are favourites and we are likely to finish 7th or 8th.

I don't care who's out for the Panthers and I hope the Raiders don't care either.
Penrith have zero pressure on them this weekend. Nobody really expects them to win and they have essentially locked in a top 2 position with 5 rounds to go.
This will be a genuine test for us, mentally as much as anything. Their forward pack is still elite.
I suspect Penrith won't play too differently to their usual style. Hopefully we can minimise errors and not gift them the cheap field position they otherwise get from Cleary's kicking game.

Have we still got that old Yellow alternate jersey from 2014 or 2016? Either of those 2 will do to help us look more like Parra to put the Panthers off.

War and peace: How Ukraine conflict weighs heavy in Hudson's heart
When Hudson Young’s grandmother and aunty speak to family in Ukraine, they can hear the sounds of the war with Russia in the background.
“Nan has still got family in Ukraine so for her, and Nan’s sister as well, it is tough knowing that there is a war going on over there and they are in danger,” Young said. “Nan’s sister has spoken with people over there and I think they are safe. They are on the outskirts [of where the fighting is happening] but they said they could hear the war going on.

I hope that's not the same CHN that played last week. Need the one that played the week before
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Riff are well drilled. The back up 6 and 7 will slot straight in.
We need to focus on putting pressure on these two all game, limit their time and space.
Keep on crunching them.

I could honestly make a stronger argument as to why we’ll lose every game from here.
We’ve only beaten Penrith in 3 of our last 11 games. We’ve lost the last 3 games. Last time we beat them was our grand final year when we had big Jonneh, and decent defense.
We’ve only beaten the Knights in 4 of our last 10 games. And they suck. Barely beat them this year, and they have the worst attack and worst defense in the league.
We’ve only beaten the Dragons in 5 of our last 12 games. They beat us this year by only scoring 12 points. They suck.
We’ve only beaten Manly in 7 of our last 28 games. They are such a bogey team for us, even when Turbo or DCE are out. We make Lachlan Croker look like Cam Smith.
We have a good recent record against the Tigers, but they are trending upward and scoring big points since Douehi returned, and have beaten two top 4 sides in the last fortnight if you ignore the Cowboys farcical “win”. Massive danger game for us.
If we go even close to winning our remaining games I’ll be shocked.

I have to keep expectations low, it’ll hurt less that way when we inevitability capitulate to a crappy team we should be able to put 50 on.
