MATCH REPORT: Erindale just falls short

Westfields held off a tenacious challenge from Erindale to set up a Peter Mulholland Cup grand final showdown with Patrician Brothers Blacktown next Wednesday. Lachlan Galvin was one of the stars of the show, scoring a try and contributing to multiple others to help his side to come from behind to beat the Canberra-based school 22-16 at Campbelltown Stadium.

It was the second year in a row Erindale have gone out at ther semifinal stage. They lead 12-0 early, but conceded the next four tries scored in the match. It was always going to be difficult to come back from that.

Sad end in Peter Mulholland Cup, a lot of those players move on at the end of the year. Very surprised by the NSW Schoolgirls Cup result. They lost their games in the opening two rounds, won the last, somehow qualified for the semis. And all of a sudden, a grand final! Hopefully they can get the win next week.

NSW Schoolgirls Cup grand final: Underdogs Erindale take on undefeated Hills Sports High

Erindale College will head into the NRL Schoolgirls grand final on Wednesday as the ultimate underdog when they face off against the undefeated Hills Sports High School. But it is not going to stop the girls from the nation’s capital from believing.

“I’m so ecstatic for the girls,” Erindale coach Ashley Barnes said. “Obviously we came in as massive underdogs and to turn up and play like that, the girls should be very proud.”

Raiders NRLW coach Darrin Borthwick to scout Erindale College rugby league stars at NSW Schoolgirls Cup

Canberra Raiders coach Darrin Borthwick will be scouting for the next generation of NRLW talent at the NSW Schoolgirls Cup final on Wednesday. Erindale College's women's rugby league team will be out to make history at Campbelltown Sports Stadium when they face The Hills Sports High School for the silverware, and Borthwick is planning to be there to watch every minute.

"I'm looking forward to hopefully getting up to watch that final myself to watch Erindale play, and I'll be looking to see what talents there are and filter them through our Lisa Fiaola (under-17s) and Tarsha Gale (under-19s) programs."

MATCH REPORT: Erindale comeback just falls short

Hills Sports High School have claimed the inaugural NRL Schoolgirls Cup after hard fought win over Erindale College at Campbelltown Stadium on Wednesday.

Erindale made a good second half comeback, after trailing 14-4 at half time. Winger Ella Kelly produced her second try in the 34th minute. Uta Uatisone Poka added another try soon after as the travelling Erindale fans got the whiff of an upset. But Erindale couldn’t quite match Hills in the end with the final score 20-14.

What a finish in the Peter Mulholland Cup Grand Final. Galvin about to score the winning try under the posts for Westfields, it’s punched out and knocked on by Blacktown, just as he’s about to ground it. And absolute sure and certain try, he ran it around... perhaps a bit cavalier in putting it down. Dust up and Galvin is sin binned, along with a Blacktown player. It’s still a turnover to Westfields 10 metres out… and they score next play anyway. Converted. Patrician Brothers Blacktown led the whole game, dominated.
