49th min TRY COOK ISLANDS to Esom Ioka. Brad Takairangi kicks to the corner and the fullback makes a brilliant take and grounds it while diving over the line. No conversion.

Papua New Guinea 42-4

Arona cleared of a spinal fracture, so that's very good news.

71st min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to hooker Rimbu, following a lost ball near half way. It looked like an obvious knock on from the Kumuls in the lead up. And so it proves to be. NO TRY. The Cook Islands ruled to have knocked on first.

MATCH REPORT: Nene scores four as Kumuls crush Cook Islands

Led by a four-try effort from Nene Macdonald, Papua New Guinea made a commanding start to their Pacific Championships campaign on Sunday afternoon by hammering the Cook Islands 46-10.

Macdonald's four tries at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby set a new single game record for the Kumuls, while Cowboys young gun Zac Laybutt came up just short of equaling Rhyse Martin's record for most points in a game for PNG with an 18-point haul.
