I'm not sure why a lot of people were/are tipping the Bunnies to be big improvers this year? Their forward pack and depth stinks. Melbourne's isn't much better but you just know that Bellamy will get everything out of his bunch of 'no names'.

if Keppie is in your 17 you've got an ordinary pack.

I'm on a hillside but Cook is done, Vegas was the best game I've seen him play in about 3 seasons

They've got their 2 starting centres out and are top heavy so their depth is not great. Edge defense is going to be an issue till at least one of those guys comes back.
It'd be rough for them to get that in order then have Mitchell get injured but that tends to be what we usually see at key parts of the season.

I think to an extent there’s the Wighton factor - the same people that think he is a loss for us (and we’ll decline as a result) see him as a big gain for Souths.

Agree with others. Souths have the same problem that the Bulldogs have. No props. Tatola is decent but would he make our prop rotation? Tapine / Papalii / Horsburgh / Ata or Guler. I think this is why they faded so badly last year. Murray is still a good player but whenever you start noticing a player becoming a bit grubbier you know it's because they're starting to slow down and they need to add a bit of guile (for want of a better word) to their game to outplay some of the young guys. Yes, Cook is cooked. Kalomatongi (? spelling) is pretty good but he is an edge attacking weapon. They have a team full of guys that are more interested in razzle dazzle - it is the souths identity - and not enough grit and tough carry guys.

I wouldn't be surprised if Demetriou gets sacked this year, as a bit of a scapegoat along with the players having a little too much power.

Raiders have an embarrassment of riches in the middles this year.

I honestly think we could play boring grind ball and beat a number of teams. Keppie is starting for Souths - he wouldn’t make our bench. Same with the Dogs.

Also the Storm rolling out with Josh King as a staring prop?

Tapine, Papalii, Horsburgh, Mariota, Smithies, Mooney, Saulo and Guler is pretty formidable.

The Rabbitohs have been hilarious so far. That obstruction was a shocker. If only both teams could come out of this with a loss.

Yes, a loss for both sides would be quite fitting. What a bludger of a game. Well done to Havili for dragging Souths back into the game but they faltered as soon as he went off and Haas came back on. Interesting to see injuries to Reynolds and Haas this early in the season.

Souths ref's challenge seemed to be overturned very quickly. Looked offside to me when he actually kicked the ball instead of when the picture was 'freeze-framed' and you could hear the bunker saying he was onside?

is Yeo not ahead of the play the ball when Cleary kicks it?
is that not technically a downtown penalty?

I thought so. We've also had Luai with 2 instances of foul play that could have copped 10 and he's still on the field.
Next week's opponent will be happy.

I've been waiting for a situation like this to see how they ruled it, i dont know if it's just an interpretation that in these instances they're going to ignore it, or no one thought about it.... But i checked and Yeo is definitely in front of the play the ball when Cleary kicks it
My understanding of the rule is that should be a penalty

Parra's had hardly any opportunity and they're going in with a 2 point lead. Penrith defence really not up to last year's standards.

Average set metres
Parra 37
Panthers 55

Average ptb speed
Parra 3.44
Panthers 2.8

Panthers have been good at pinning the side down their own end
Eels have done well to score with limited opportunity

I can't get over how bad Parramatta's defence is. Their kick chase is half arsed and their line is all over shop. How many of their players rush out of the line? At least they are holding onto the ball.

On the other hand, Penrith are scraping by on the talent of a few individuals. Some pretty lazy habits starting to creep in.

Perhaps it wasn’t considered a reportable offence, but there was a clawing action with the fingers. It surely was reportable.

Yes, and they are loose in the middle and not that great on the right either. Their middle forwards look slow.

Panthers going to really open this up now. Parramatta unlucky to cop another injury from their own guy smashing Liam Martin.
