Technically, it does. Only the captain attends the toss.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Actually I think it does. The same thing happened when Croker and Whitehead were on the field at the same time and Croker was told the same thing. If co-captains are on the field at the same time, only the captain present for the coin toss can challenge the ref

EDIT: fair go it all, reptar beat me to it

I did have to go check on it, though. The actual law is:

2. Start of Play The captains of the two teams shall toss the coin in the presence of the referee. The captain winning the toss shall decide to either kick off or choose which end his team shall defend. The losing captain shall take the other of the alternatives.

Cowboys lack the pace on the wings to exploit the Eels compressed defence like we did last week. Been a long time since we had that kind of pace.

Eels try disallowed as Lussick was off side at the short drop! That's funny. Brad Arthur's reaction a classic!

Plenty of purposes, in the minds of coaches - but only one captain as far as officials are concerned.

So when teams like the Tigers name 5 co-captains the ref doesn’t get challenged by half the team over every call

Not necessary. It's for TV ratings only

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

2024 NRL Round 6: Teams and Game Day

Post by greeneyed »

NoMan wrote:Yeah it turns into a different sport. Nothing wrong with a draw or maybe Golden try.
I can’t see how it’s any different, to say, the last five minutes of regulation time of a game where the scores are tied. We have field goals as an option to break ties in the game in standard time. You have to have the rules in regulation time as you have in golden point or extra time.

I think golden point is great. Adds excitement, tension and delivers a result. Draws are awful, a huge anti climax.
